Wii almost dead? Little or no novelties for it? Bu-bu-bu-but Vitality Sensor?  WAAAAAH!!!

According to Iwata they couldn't make this thing work properly.

Cool that this is the first Nintendo console that will cross the 100M mark, and only approx 5.69M away, it will close that to less than 4.9M by end of march.

Buying in 2015: Captain toad: treasure tracker,

mario maker

new 3ds

yoshi woolly world

zelda U

majora's mask 3d

Has to be a first for the industry in a few ways, mostly in that it was the first market leader to win entirely on the efforts of the first-party, showing the strengths and weaknesses of such an approach (granting that Nintendo is the only publisher on the planet capable of doing such a thing in the first place, if they are willing to do it).

If only Nintendo had given the finger to third parties and stuck to their guns, and built up more development capacity internally, we wouldn't be seeing this lacklustre departure of the console from the scene (though Nintendo consoles have died ignominiously from the N64 onward, a market leader shouldn't be, but given that the industry did all it could to reject that market leadership, it's somewhat understood)

This was the generation that taught me to never trust the gaming media unless it's Nintendo-specific (and even then to scrutinize, scrutinize, scrutinize, a la IGN Nintendo), and to hate certain third parties, as well as teaching me that the Nintendo fanbase is functionally an independent entity from "gamers" as a whole

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Xenoblade still has yet to release in America. Thus, as far as I'm concerned, there are still games releasing so it's not over yet. =p

Wii saw the rebirth of proper console 2D platforming, with NSMBWii and DKC3, for that reason it is the best console since the SNES. Shame about some of the late things, with Metroid Other M Nintendo pretty much murdered their coolest franchise. Skyward Sword was great, but it came out way too late to make a big impact. Nintendo really are terrible terrible terrible with timing, sometimes it seems they have learnt nothing since the N64 days.

Superb console and a generation won virtually on the strength of Nintendos brilliant first party efforts alone. It got people into gaming that would perhaps never have been interested in the past.As is always mentioned 3rd party support was hit and miss (mainly miss),but games like Goldeneye, red steel 2,cod games, epic mickey, zak and wiki and no more heroes prove that when effort was put into the system you could get great results. It does sadden me that the bigger 3rd party devs couldnt make wii exclusive games, built from the ground up of their big franchises, instead of ignoring it altogether in favour of the high def machines. The old underpowered hardware excuse does wear a bit thin when Nintendo show us that epic (and good looking games) can be made for the system time and time again.I really like motion control and find it does add immersion to games, but on the flip side many games had motion control tacked on as if it was neccessary to have it on every game.On the whole though i really rate the wii,and im sure in a few years time people will see the significance of this (love/hate) console.I have owned all the consoles this gen and even though i have experienced the HD consoles in all their glory,i still have no interest in bashing Nintendo or the Wii like some of the many fanboys have over the years.Perhaps that makes me the real hardcore gamer :)

First I want to say y'all cray thinking virtual Console is expensive. For someone who grew up in the Gamecube era these games are a steal. The classics are so repayable and I play them as much as I play my wii games. I have so much playtime in this console it crazy. I have about over 2000 hours and still going strong. Its my most played system ever and favorite. Games like Smash bros brawl,Mario bros wii and Goldeneye (ok Monster hunter and punch out too) gave me 100's hours of playtime alone. The only problem is that the wii missed a shot with motion plus games. Could've been more oh well

Is that 2000 hours just on the Virtual Console? If so then dayum.

I would say compared to he experiences you can get online for free, or even some WiiWare games, NES, SNES and MegaDrive games are a bit pricey... there probably should have been a more variable scale (I mean 500pts for PacMan!?) as well as discounts either after a period of time, or perhaps at the choice of whichever company owns the rights.

And if the 2000 hours is total time, then I can trump that as I passed 4000 hours in November. That includes channel use like the internet channel though... but doesn't include GameCube games. If I take out all the Wii channel use, and add in an estimation for GC (around 200h) it's probably just over 3000 hours.

The 2000 hours is just a estimate between 2008-2010 I have yet do the rest of 2010 and 2011.

I actually bought Donkey Kong for $5 which is just 3 levels over and over again. I manage to play that for 5 hours. I made the most out of that one. Though to be fair the games that are super short(pac man) are very pricy compared to something like mario bros. Though Super Mario bros is probably  underpriced if you asked me. Though I do like the idea of discounts.

3000 hours. Out of all the months I got from March 2008 to January 2011 I got 2,262. Not counting Wii channels or Gamecube titles. Which I don't have a idea on how I can estimate that one. With a average of 750 hours per 11 months(March to  February) with 2011 missing 11 months lol

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Fond memories on Okami, Muramasa, Star Soldier R when I hit the 20th mark in my country's leaderboards after replaying the first level for a week, Madworld, hundreds of hours of multiplayer madness on Wii sports... and Monster Hunter 3

2008-2009 was such a blast, I remember when we got MP3, SMG, SSBM, NMH... one great game every month. Now other platform have such great games at a rate of several a month...

Now, it's just unbelievable how the Wii managed to perform so well with all the industry all guns blazing against Nintendo, lazy 3rd party devs, forums, journalists all against it. And even Nintendo himself giving it the coup de grace and abandoning everything on the Wii while they where preparing 3DS launch.

Also, on my personal point of view, I am happy that Ninty shitted so much, and thanks to this site, it opened my eyes on other platform. Now I don't play my Wii anymore, but PC & PS3 !

Oh you're a time traveller... well that's cheating

Assuming you meant March 2008 though means you probably play a bit more than me, (as I got my Wii in Feb 2007) Adding up my game time (Wii, WiiWare and VC) from the beginning of March 2008 to the end of January 2011 gives 2105 hours.
My GameCube time during that period was also lessened, as I think I spent about 120-140 hours on GC games during 2007, and then in summer 2011 I played through OoT and WindWaker, probably totting up 80-100 hours. I think in the 2008-2010 period I probably spent maybe 40-50 hours on GC games (so I underestimated a little in my previous post)

I assume by the way from your accurate number of hours for March 08 through Jan 10 that you have counted up your hours using the Wii message board like I have (though I am only missing December 2011)

Yes I meant 2008 darn my proofread skills

I actually got my wii in December of 2007 but I pressed format(thinking it meant something else) and erased all my saved data. So it only goes up the March. Though that was when Brawl came out so the hours were quickly made back.  As for that March 08 to February 09 I have 747 hours. March 09 to February 10 was 721 hours. So far for March 2010 to January 2011 its 794 hours. The last jump was because finally could play online with Goldeneye and Monster Hunter in December 2010. I don't remember playing Gamecube games that much unless it's a oddball game I decided to replay so at most it could be 100 hours.

Anyway my numbers do come from the message board
