Forums - Sony Discussion - So.....I noticed Vita numbers are not that good this week. Can we talk about it now? (update because of Media Create numbers)

Thank god u created this topic, I would like to see some discussion on it too :P
OT, I think that its because big software is out for the 3DS(Marios + MonHun), so the japonese consumer is getting it with 3DS's. Vita will be a beast IMO, but this Christmas was dominated by the new software on 3DS. I might be wrong regarding Vita software tho, since VGC dont consider downloadable sales.

These "we need to talk about it" threads need to die a horrible death.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

Based on my advanced technique of checking out amazon sales from time to time I would say that the 3DS will outsell the Vita this week in Japan by a greater margin than it did last week. But I am a nintendo fan so I could be looking at the amazon charts with a bit of bias. And maybe people are downloading their PS Vitas instead of buying fisical copies of the hardware from a store. I heard that could be a factor for the low software sales. And it's only 7 days this week so we'll have to keep that in mind when comparing the results to the 3DS that had 168 hours worth of sales this week.

I have three thoughts here:

1. Having Monster Hunter 3G release the same week as the Vita was a devious, DEVIOUS move by Nintendo and Capcom. That game is likely to have made a fair few people choose a 3DS that week when they may have chosen a Vita, which obviously impacts Vita's software sales.

2. Digital download games are going to be a gigantic part of Vita--every single retail game is also going to be downloadable. They are heavily pushing this functionality, and so I wouldn't be surprised if 30% to 50% of sales for the average game were from downloadable sales.

3. Unlike the 3DS launch software sales, this is not due to an absence of good games. Hot Shots Golf and Uncharted, just to name two, are hugely popular series' that do well in both sides of the ocean. Something else is going on here.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

If that percentage start climbing too high retailers will start to get pissed.

I disagree. The 3DS launched with Layton and Nintendogs, which I would argue are much bigger in Japan than HSG and Uncharted (respectively). Hot Shots Golf is a popular series in Japan, but it's hardly a system seller. And Uncharted is a shooter. Combine that with (as you mentioned) the launch of Monster Hunter on the 3DS on the same week, and it just wasn't a fair battle.

The preview is usually far from accuracy,so I will wait for famitsu or media create before giving opinion.

Both hardware and especially software sales for the Vita are very disappointing. It looks like the 3DS will dominate over the Vita just like the the DS did over the PSP. Sony should have made a slightly less powerful handheld and released it before the launch of the 3DS that way Sony would have actually had a change to stay close or with a little luck actually beat Nintendo when it comes to hand held consoles.
