Wow at the 3DS numbers being bigger than the Vita's on LAUNCH WEEK.

The beginning of a trend, or just an oddity in the history of a successful handheld?

Love and tolerate.

Xilla > FF

That's pretty bad for Square isn't it? Tales now a bigger franchise on PS3 than FF? I guess it wasn't a main FF though so not fair to compare.

Its this kind of thing that makes me wonder why this site even bothers with the Japanese preview, they predicted over 700,000 for XIII-2 and it did 520,000.

Why dont they just have the sense to wait for the media create numbers then embarrass themselves with such inaccuracy?

Because it's a preview. It's samples from one store to give a guide on how early numbers will roughly pan out.

Its pointless, not only is it very inaccurate you have the proper numbers just a couple days later. I could be more accurate than the numbers in that preview.

Actually it gains a lot of a attraction, gees you're a negative guy arnt you? Hurry up and get yourself banned again

Why not do it for all regions?

Well, before the site change last month we had Americas and EMMEA previews. But they're different to what source does. We'll be doing USA and Europe Previews again next year when everything calms down.

Well, probably with the not charted Xbox 360 version of FF 13-2, FF13-2 > Xillia. But FF franchise has definitely taken a hit. I guess it was going to catch up with SE eventually. DQ X will probably sell much lower than other DQ games because of it being an MMO.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Nice to see that the 3DS is holding out really well despite the incoming dawn of its archrival, well we'll see the full war in action the next week when both the PSV and the 3DS fight it out with full one-week numbers (the PSV only had 2 days to sell for this week).

But it still puzzles me as to why the Wii is still almost edging out the PS3 despite the PS3 having newer big releases, and given PSV's stronger launch lineup, shouldn't the numbers be higher than that of the 3DS back then? It's even the holiday season for the PSV to strut its stuff now, 3DS didn't have that privilege at all.

lol, a second epic bomb on a row, I can't say I'm not happy about it.

So we have completely entered into a new generation of portable consoles, I'm feeling terribly old :(

Would really be interesting to see how much the psvita games have sold digital. As the games are 500-100yen cheaper on the psn store.

I believe that's two days of Vita vs full week of 3DS.  Also not sure what people were expecting.  Vita sold a lot more than PSP at launch, which pretty much confirms that Sony is looking solid in Japan for handhelds vs where it started with PSP launch.  The PSP was like the original Xbox - the latest pretender to an apparently untouchable foe (Nintendo handhelds).  Despite 3DS and competition from it's own stablemate plus smartphones/tablets the Vita has launched pretty well relative to it's predecessor, with a decent library of games sharing a decent level of sales at retail - download number are of course unknown but I preume some of the new Vita owners bought and downloaded stuff with their new gadgets.

Now it'll be down to how the device either blooms or wilts over time and how well the libary grows and sells.

OT generally - decent seasonal boost for Wii but I guess PS3 takes the year in Japan overall.  Okay PS3 boost but looks like the lukewarm reception of FFXIII impacted both FFXIII-2 plus desire for it's special consoles.

Square really need to take note.  Mind you personally I think they've made one bad move after another this gen - overly suppprting 360 early on in the hopes of gaining traction in the West, which didn't seem to work and left them struggling on PS3 which was far more dominant locally in Japan, then seeming to shift back to PS3 a bit by keeping FFXIII exclusive in Japan but getting mauled for the games approach and producing a sub par 360 version (relative to PS3 it was okay and playable enough IMO).  And that's not even getting started on how they screwed up FFXIV on PC with the subsequent huge delay for PS3.

Great 3DS sales - the device is certainly looking more than stable now and certain to thrive I think.  360 weak as ever in Japan but nothing is going to shift that now.  PSP sold okay I thought given Vita launch - I'll be curious to see how the two devices stabilize relative to each other.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

actually most games were 1000 yen lower than retail PLUS Sony had a big competition involving psn use in vita..rewards were based on activity on psn including purchases

good numbers for Uncharted and Minna Golf as well

VIta is off to a good start :D let's hope it keeps up
