I don't get what the Song of Storms has to do with the timeline.

I understood it as when Link got the song of storms and went back to the past to dry up the well with it he caused a split in the timeline because him drying up the well was something that didn't happen in the "original timeline".

What bugs me about that is you get the song of storms from the windmill guy talks about a kid using it and the well is dried up. So Link didn't make any changes but just doing things he was destined to do.

Did that make sense?

Exactly. The first time you pull off the master sword you can go the well and see it is dried, and the windmill guy talks about a child seven years ago who played the song, which is Young Link. So, you only do pre-destined actions.

It's called a "stable time loop." Think about Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, where Harry knew he could perform the Patronus charm because he had already seen himself perform it (and needed to intervene in the past to *prevent* a time paradox). Similarly you have (up until the end of the 2nd movie) a stable loop in Terminator, whereby John Connor was conceived because John Connor sent one of his soldiers back to protect his mom, who ended up being his father, and where Skynet emerged because Cyberdyne found a piece of the Terminator that Skynet sent back to prevent the conception of John Connor

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

That was awesome. I was laughing my head off during the bit Doc explained the timeline.

I know, right? They totally nailed Doc Brown's dialog!
My favorite part was when he was asked "wait, which one of my descendents does that?" and he replies nonchalantely: "Link"

(also the part with SC2 was hilarious)

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Yeah I figured it was something like that. I just couldn't think of the proper term.
