Forums - Sony Discussion - PS Vita freezes, touch screen problems reported, YouTube videos show system lock-ups non-responsive touch controls

CVG

Sony released PS Vita in Japan this weekend and, like any hardware launch, it was never likely to go completely smoothly.

While there's no real way of telling how widespread early Vita issues are, videos are cropping up online seemingly showing consoles freezing, as well as non-responsive touch screens.

According to Kotaku, one Japanese journalist has reported that, when the system freezes, the hardware will not power down. Holding down the power button for an extended period, as suggested on Sony's PS Vita help page, appears to fix this, but that hasn't stopped the issue repeatedly occurring for the affected user. The freezing issue has been experienced by pro-gamer Kiryu Tsukimiya too.

Some Vita owners are also reporting being unable to boot up their handhelds, despite them being fully charged, while one early adopter has posted pictures of the portable with what appear to be screen "stains" or "spots" on its OLED display.

unlucky owners...

while im never one to defend sony, its just an unlucky user. im sure it would be replaced instantly if he brought it back. There are going to be issues with any new console launch, this isnt a big deal. Remember when the DS launched and loads of consoles had dead pixels all over the screen, nintendo had the cheek to release a statement saying that " it shouldnt effect your enjoyment" cheeky, it most certainly effected my enjoyment. These things happen, it will be sorted.

PS: wont be buying a Vita on launch anyway

Shit happens. Failure rates of a few % are to be expected. Nothing to see, unless it becomes more widespread.

(I'd just ask sony fans to remember the above sentence next time Ninty or MS hardware has issues)

Agreed.. noting that Sony Fans should be changed to Fanboys. Nonetheless there have been problems in the past for one of those two companies that were more then a few percents.

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

When?

Disc Read Error on PS2 is pretty famous. First PS1's weren't exactly great either.

Same as the old PSP with reports of dead pixels, analog issues, and the Square button sticking. It's to be expected with a console launch and is another reason why many people wait before buying a new console. Since the arrival of the disc based systems, I can remember:

360: RRoD, System overheating, adapter actually burning
PS3: YLoD, Bricking, HDD issues
PSP: Dead Pixels, bricking after updates, square button sticking
3DS: Top screen scratching, loose hinges
DS Lite: Hinge cracking
DS: Hinge breaking
PS2: Disc Read Error, couldn't read many DVD's
PS1: Spindel would fall off, weak motor for spinning discs
Xbox: Would brick, HDD issues
GBA: Would get drunk and gamble away its paycheck
Dreamcast: Liked to hide in the closet and watch his wife have sex with other men

So the PSV having problems is no big deal. It's just the way things are. Cars, TV's, Phones, Computers, Clothes, --you name it and there's some percentage of defects.

Weren't the first 500k NES systems recalled by Nintendo for some reason? (given they had to recall them it must have been a major issue)

There was a moment where I thought you actually posted a serious comment. But then came GBA and Dreamcast. Boy, I am relieved.
