They get great reviews on cnet.com which I respect their opinion greatly, so that was my original reason for picking the Focus as my new phone.   I have a WP7 on ATT myself, and it is flawless. My fiance has a Galaxy android on Verizon, and it's complete crap. It's newer and cost more than mine too. But her screen always freezes, whether it's the internet or texting, or even sometimes the main menu screen. Half the screen goes blank sometimes and when she flips it on its side to get a wide view, it sometimes just doesn't work. I don't know if this is Verizon (many people I know have problems with them) or that particular droid, but she wants to switch to a WP7 and ATT as soon as her contract is up. The only thing that WP7 doesn't have going for it, is the massive amounts of apps that the others have, but it's getting up there, and it has everything I need, so I'm happy. The maps are also great on WP7, I just moved to a new area and use it all the time and it's flawless. My fiance's droid can't find anything, including where we are, assuming it even works that far. We've brought it into Verizon too, they say they can't do anything. Weaksauce.

Cool story bro.

I love these stories. Nobody who has a Galaxy S2 phone has a big problem, and quite a bit of the trustworthy sites named it the best phone of the year( or the Galaxy Nexus). People are happy with it and sales show that. The only people not happy are WP7 owners. Thankfully there aren't many.

And LOL at waves comment as well.

I have an LG Vortex. Now, by and large this was a budget phone even one year ago when I got it with my renewed Verizon contract. With that said, the hardware itself is actually admirable and I rather enjoy it. However, the problems I've heard of other people having with their Android phones seem numerous, and I find myself sharing a few with them.

The most prominent is the fact that the system seems to, on occasion and not all the time, turn the screen off when I enter my pin/password. This isn't a hardware problem, it's definitely the Android system being bitchy. It's incredibly annoying because I have to restart the system to fix it.

Next is another occasional issue with entering my pin where somehow it stretches the vertical display like it was meant for horizontal; meaning there are numbers I simply cannot access when entering my pin. Again, requires a restart to fix.

I've had a few others, but I trust this will suffice. My point is that, this phone uses Android 2.2 and it has some pretty unsettling issues. It's not a gamebreaker, but getting these issues on occasion is rather annoying at best.

I'd rather not get an iPhone, so the only other option besides Android and iOS is Windows Phone. I got to play around with the AT&T one on display at a local Best Buy. I simply can't wait for my contract with Verizon to expire so I can get one. I'm not too big into apps, so I think a low priced Windows Phone that doesn't lag while using its interface like my Vortex will be great for me. :)

The thing you said about it stretching the screen out vertically instead of horizontally also happens to her phone.  I'll let her know to restart it instead of swearing at it.

BOOM!  FACE KICK!

To the people talking about the number of apps, obviously its the newest app store among the 3 (iOS, WP7, Andriod)...give it time to grow, its already at 45,000 and I believe the fastest to get there, just missing a few apps but the marketplace is good now!

Also, nice to see WP7 dominate the list on Amazon's top rated phones with w/ service plans! (HTC Titan you're mine soon!!)

I would wait till early next year before getting a titan.

Due to this - http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57345291-37/apple-wins-patent-victory-over-htc-which-faces-looming-import-ban/

Htc will have to make more of this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Phone_7_Series

And already there are rumors of this - http://www.knowyourcell.com/news/1174403/att_prepping_the_elite_and_a_4g_lte_windows_phone_from_htc.html

Ya I heard about those things...

Thing is I usually get my phones unlocked, or unlock them myself (basically off-contract), because I travel every year and next year I'll be moving overseas. And as you know unlocked phones start off very expensive (the HTC Titan is currently $500-$700 unlocked on Ebay), but thanks for the heads up I'll make my final decision early next year, but I really want this phone!! lol...

Now if only Square Enix would finally release their marketplace for NA, I would love this device to death.

I want it too, and would try to convince my work to get one for me and mobile app testing or something...but they dont sell em yet in canada. Canada hasnt gotten a single 7.5 mango phone. Kinda embarassing for microsoft to be honest. They have a year old htc 7 going against galaxy nexus here.

Ya I heard about Canada's lack of WP7 phones, very disappoiting...hopefully they can redeem themselves in the next couple of months!

Today, the stunning new smartphone was awarded the Editor’s Choice at the What Mobile Awards 2011 at London’s Whisky Mist.

The decision was reached after thousands of readers voted for their favourite new phones, apps and networks during October on the magazine’s website

SOURCE

This is just blatantly misleading.

While not actually saying so, the second sentence (with bold letters) for example clearly suggests that this award was based on a voting from "thousands of readers".

In practice however it was quite the contrary - it seems that out the the 18 awards that "What Mobile" announced, THIS was the only award that NOT the readers voted upon.

The real, main award that the readers voted upon is not the "Mobile Phone of the year" award, which went to the Android Smartphone Samsung Galaxy S2. The Nokia Lumia 800 that won this dubious "Editor's Choice Award" was not even available when the readers voted - in fact, it was released only ONE day before this award was announced, so one can seriously wonder how the editors were even able to judge absolutely all aspects (durability, battery life etc.) of a phone that was released only one day before, and when even their first review of the phone appeared about 10 days later.

And what does "Editor's choice award" even mean but "an extremely small group of individuals, namely one or more editors of a magazine, declared this particular phone to be the best of the year, for whatever reason"? There is no factual information behind this award whatsoever, not even any hint of popularity.

And the thread title is simply wrong, as neither of the provided sources claim something like this. As mentioned before, "What Mobile" does indeed announce a "Mobile Phone of the year" award, but that went to an Android phone. The second source on the other hand lists not only one, but 4 "best smartphones of 2011": one WP7 phone, one iPhone and two Android devices - so that source doesn't justify the thread title as well.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Nokia Lumia 800 (or Windows Phone 7 in general) isn't great - I really cannot judge at all, so far I have never even seen any WP7 phone in reality that I could get my hands on. All I want to point out is how pointless it is to give any meaning to this particular award, and how the information is presented in a seemingly consciously misleading way.

In a way, this thread feels more like some people are so desperately trying to convince themselves how great WP7 is that they are already starting to fool themselves by applauding almost irrelevant awards.

Look, If a child gets a toy, that toy must be the best toy in the world. A child is unable to use critical thinking, instead they are forced to find affirmation of their beliefs, whether that be through false or misleading information is irrelevant.

In this case, it is a grown man that has decided MS is the best toy in the world.
