Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony Ships 700,000 Vitas

Andriasang has reported that Sony shipped 700k Vitas for the launch in Japan!

It should come as no surprise that demand for the PlayStation Vita is incredibly high in the device's home country of Japan. But according to Andriasang, which cited a Mainichi Digital story, Sony increased its expected first-day Vita shipments domestically to keep up with rampant demand.

According to Andriasang's interpretation of Mainichi Digital's story, "initial shipment[s]" of Vita "may exceed 700,000 units." The piece goes on to explain that the author of the article "heard from various sources related to the matter that Sony originally planned an initial shipment of 500,000 units. However, due to pre-order demand, Sony added an additional 200,000 units."

It's unclear how many units Sony plans to initially ship when the PlayStation Vita comes to North America, Europe and Australia in February of 2012.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

My Vita prediction was 800k. I don't think Sony can manufacture and ship an additional 100k for the week. Damn it! I was so close!

Just to remind people. Hear are the sales in Japan of the first week when the 3DS launched.

- 3DS: 374,764 [NEW!]
- PSP: 47,955 [DOWN] 13,375 (24.28%)
- PS3: 23,654 [DOWN] 1,588 (6.29%)
- Wii: 12,159 [DOWN] 62 (0.51%)
- DSi LL: 9,093 [DOWN] 944 (9.41%)

- PS2: 1,773 [DOWN] 90 (4.83%)
- PSP Go: 1,076 [DOWN] 1,411 (56.74%)

Does anyone think Sony will be able to produce and ship any additional Vita units for launch?

So Vita nearly doubled the 3DS thanks to the holiday. I wonder how it would have done outside of a holiday.

You are pretty late. Seece already made a thread about this.

In my defense I only looked here in the sales discussion forum. Not in the Sony forum. But after posting this, I went there and saw that.

That's a big shippement.

I doubt that they can sell more than half of that.

They improved the number of systems for the launch, because the pre-orders sold out. But it looks like the available systems to pre-order were 500,000. So there is a chance they won't sell out of the additional 200,000 systems.

But it is the holiday shopping season.
