Forums - Sony Discussion - GT5 Update: 7.3 Million Shipped * as of Sep 2011

Tagged games:

As of September 3rd Vgchartz has it at selling 3.04 million in Europe. Its probably undertracked, they usually are.

Comparing the shipped data with GT4.

GT5 (1 month): 6.37m
GT5 (10 month): 7.3m

GT4 (6 month): 6.79m
GT4 (15 month): 7.63m

I don't have the data to 10 month of GT4 but seems like GT5 is over GT4 in shipped sales.

I am one of those guys in Europe!

All seriousness though, I made a lot of my friends get a PS3 and quite many of them are actually playing it. People I didn't even know liked cars aside from the usual destruction, killing thing. Insane!

By the end of September it was 3.08 then, not a huge difference still probably undertracked.

Shipment v Sold seem perfectly fine to me. VGC are spot on.

where is that shipment forecast you did Ethomaz?

My prediction was 7,930k for Sep 2011... 600k off... I'm on track with NA, a little under with Europe and a lot over with Japan... Japan killed me .

But I guess 600k off for shipment is not too bad.

hmmm... 600k is miles off to be honest...  you expected 1.6m, it managed 1.0m  thats an over estimation of 60%.

There is no way it will get another 1m by the end of December either, by then you will be at least 1m off.

It is essentially dead in Japan and grinding to a halt in the US.

Only bundles can get this anywhere near GT4, GT3 is out of the question (wasn't it always)

This is where the install base of the PS2 v PS3 really shows through.... for the mega selling games.

edit*  fire away, tin hat is on.

For 7 million... is just 8% off.

For December I guess impossible but for March 2012 is almost certain... there are the new Spec II in US.

My thoughts:

- NA: It will sell LT slightly more than Gran Turismo 4 (over 3.17 million)
- Europe: It will sell LT over any GT ever (over 6.76 million)
- Japan: It will sell LT under any GT ever (under 1.27 million)

At the end will sell slightly more than GT4 (over 11.38 million).

awesome.... 8+ million by the end of the year.
~9.3+ million next year 2012
9.8 milllion 2013
10.5 million lifetime

and you think Japan sales will double from here?  thats insane.

What??? The number is the worst selling GT... 1.27 million... so under 1.27 million can be 800k.

Good number, especially considering the small installed base compared to the PS2. But it will never get 10 million, not even close. That is in no way an indication of poor performance though, it has sold roughly about the pace I imagined before launch and has done very well.
People who expected, and even guaranteed, 10 million lifetime saw themselves blind on Prologue sales and overestimated first week sales and sales potential in Japan.
Japan will never be the same as a home console market after this generation, they seem to have shifted their primary focus on handheld gaming for the foreseeable future.

GT5 is still tracking better than GT4 (11.38m).

It's in the way to top 10 million.
