Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony PS3 Sales "Slightly Ahead" of 15 Million Yearly Target

How does Eurogamer know those figures?

As of the previous quarter, MS shipped 57.6 and Sony shipped 55.5.  Rounding up the PS3 maybe?

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

According to this site, as of 5th of November. The PS3 sold 55.33 million and Xbox 360 57.75 million. So Xbox is probably overtracked.

also that till 5th november VGC had undertracked PS3.

when official sony number came out at the end of october,VGC adjusted them only then PS3  went up

OT:

Juanuary will be very very interesting when official numbers come out and VGC adjustments are made.

This happens again and again and again that people starts to think PS3 isn't selling well and then the official numbers come in and everybody's eyes are opened.

PS3 is selling good... even NPD show that (70% UP)... the VGC constantly adjusts the numbers... so I'm fine with the real number coming out just after January.

If PS3 will be undertracked yet again this holiday I don't know what to say. Can't they just adjust them up based on past trends before the numbers from Sony are here? I look forward to Nintendo's report later on anyway

You assume they havent

So PS3 is UP YoY for sure now.

And VGC had PS3: 53,985,614

2,014,386 on shelves.

Explain those numbers to me?

VGC has 55.3 million sold through at 2nd November doesnt it?

VGC shows PS3 sold  53,985,614 53,972,644 at 1st October.

Edit - I checked again the number was 10k less than a wrote http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/40818/Global/

56m - shipped
54m - sold

2m on shelves

can you explain again why you are using october 1st numbers. Sony official shipments are 55.53 by october first and vgchartz has it at 54mil sold. So thats 1.5mil on shelves not 2mil like you stated.

Then eurogamer somehow? found out they shipped 56mil by the end of october and vgchartz has it at 55.3mil which means 700k on shelves. Numbers seem perfectly fine to me

Xbox 360 eurogamer just listed their shipped numbers from the end of september 57.60 so that really doesn't help us at all.

WOW! My mistake... I read 2nd October... forget what I said before.

So I had two numbers:

29th Oct: 54,986,427
5th Oct: 55,328,139

More likely 29th Oct.

56m - shipped
55m - sold

1m on shelves

I do, because they didn't do it last year or the year before that. Maybe they're not doing it this time but I think it's more likely than not that it happens again, especially with the unknown factor that a price cut brings in.

I also recall some pretty big negative adjustments for the PS3 in the past as well after the holidays. Also wasnt last years mostly a negative adjustment of 360 and Wii when 360 shortages were disclosed an Wii sales werent as high as expected.

They said novemeber 2nd so I suppose its fairest to say half of october 29-november 5th sales. So 870k on shelves.

When?

Wii sales are more often than not adjusted down, PS3 had a huge upwards adjustment for 2010 after Nintendo released their numbers because of a bigger than expected Move boost in Europe.

A couple of years ago. To bad no one really has kept track of these "Huge Adjustments" so they dont become just become something for people to just throw in to futher thier argument.  Also dont expect that Move boost this year and the Europe numbers are tracking right along with those numbers from last year.  Nothing seems out of the ordinary and I think it is somewhat disengenious to think that the people running VGC dont ever adjust how they are tracking based on past incorrect assumptions.

wow i missed the excitement. that sucks.
