Forums - General Discussion - Ever been the victim of a crime?

In the 90's, someone broke into my uncle's house while my cousin was home alone.

They had a new puppy so she was taking care of him. A man had been leaving threatening messages on their answering service for a week and even left one earlier that day. Around 8PM, she was feeding the puppy when someone started messing with the front door. She thought one of her brothers forgot their key, but before she could reach the door, someone broke it open. She ran upstairs just as the man came in, leaving the puppy downstairs.

She locked herself in her room and heard the puppy barking and crying as it followed her up the stairs. She realized that she left him, but also remembered that the puppy didn't know how to climb stairs yet and figured that the man carried him up to lure her out. When she didn't fall for it, he broke into her room. She had to jump out of her second story window to get away from him, and went to a neighbor's house for help. The police came and searched the house but didn't find anything. At least the puppy was okay.

Interesting, I had a friend who lived in South Africa and I asked him if he was a victim of crime.

He said no, because most Africaners and Brits live in Gated communities.

Depends where you live, but in general he's quite wrong - he was probably over-exaggerating to make a point. My whole neighbourhood lives in houses/flats not very dissimilar from the one's you would see in the US/Europe.

Personally I hate those gated communities. Feels very artificial. I'd never live in one.

Here's a typical upper class one for those interested to see how white people stay alive here /s

LMAO !!! Shiit son, maybe its time to move someplace else?

Problem is that I live in one of the most awesome cities in the world... I'd never leave - its a small price to pay.

80GB Iphone, top tech laptop, broken car and house, a friggin' mountain bike and 3 cell phones are small price? Sweet jesus, what kind of job do you have?

Well, you missed the one that hit the hardest; I had an uber-Wii bundle

My situation is pretty good tbh, but more than that - I just love where I live. Seriously a small price to pay to have so much diversity, culture, awesome beaches, nature and mountains etc.

If it was more 1st world it would've been hela expensive to live here.

If Earth is a 3rd planet in our solar system, aren't ALL countries 3rd world countries? O_o

That might be the first original joke I've heard all week.

Was robbed at knife point when I was 16, guy got my wallet and 60 bucks. not horrible but was quite terrifying for a 16 year old.

When I was 22 had my $1500 custom car stereo stolen out of my car, Insurance paid for it.

When I was 24 my car got stolen, it was found gutted completely and was just a shell when it was found.

When I was 26 has another custom stereo stolen out of my car, this one worth $3000. Insurance picked up most of it.

Havent had anything in 6 years. So I seem to have hit a good streak here

The makers of the Hangover 2 straight up robbed me.
