Forums - Sony Discussion - The heck, PS3 DMC4 requires 25 min hard drive installation?!

I don't understand why it needs to do this. You can stream textures and data from the BR disc no problems. It seems to work with Uncharted no problem.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

but .. you guys know ,that you can simply de-install the games you are currently not playing (or are rather sure you won't play again in the next weeks/months) _WITHOUT_ losing the savegames , right ?

Oh Gee Lafiel, I'm so sorry I expected a console to not require me to install and uninstall games. Wait, no I'm not. Not at all. That is called a low end PC.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Blu-Ray gaming! Why have the convenience of plug-n-play when you can have more space I suppose the saying now goes. Oh well, I'm sure a one time installation isn't so bad.

Load time really should be dependent on Disk read speed 2Xblu-ray is 72Mbit so they should be able to load the entire 512M memory in 57 seconds.
Or of the HDD in 5 seconds.
or on the 360 sould take no more than ~30 seconds off 12XDVD.
All above assume continuous data reading with no seeking - seeking on optical disks is very Slow , which is why it makes sense for developers to replicate data alot (even on 12xDVD ) rather than try to seek it, probably another reason that games us so much GB's .

Generally a game will start and show into etc very fast as it only needs to read a little data to play an intro movie.
Also most Games wont ever load the entire 512Mbytes Memory as significant proportion of this is used for the Framebuffer, Operating System, Stream Buffering , Holding Static Game state info, Mip mapped graphical data, and probably other uses too.
So in theory worst case for a disk to press play to actuall playing should be no more than ~50 seconds during which time the player is entertained with intro material and setup prior to actual gameplay.
Any delays longer than that are the result of Crap Developers.

So, one game requires a large installation and suddenly it becomes the norm of Blu-Ray games? Im much happier installing data that can be easily removed if I dont play the game anymore if it means I dont have to sit through a blank loading screen every 5 minutes or so.

What are you talking about with Oblivion? the only load time that takes that long on my xbox is when i first load the game. It usually takes no more then 15-30 seconds while playing the game, and only while going into another building or something. Ive played Oblivion for friggin ever and never had the problems your talking about, or even the problem of walking around and having load times while doing that.

Maybe your cache is fragmented. Try holding down the A button while the game is booting, that clears the cache, maybe itll help.

Back on Topic:
I think the bigger problem here isnt necessarily the whole "its worth it" deal. I think the issue is whether or not more developers take this stance with their games, eventually it may become more difficult to play a game. Instead of just popping in a disc and getting to play, you will have to deal with having to clear up space BEFORE you can even play a game. Which would suck cuz the play reason i have a console is cuz i can put in the disc and it just plays.

I've never seen a 15-30 load time on PS3 Oblivion.  That would really suck when you are constantly going inside places to shop for stuff or in a dungeon.

Perhaps it should be optional, but I'm all for game installs.  When I'm done with the game I delete it, so it's not that space consuming.  With media streaming I only have game-related data on my PS3 HD, and the HD is upgradable anyway, so the space shouldn't be an issue.

GGE: back to trolling already I see.  Not every game has installs or needs it (see Uncharted), and it's great to have the option to install.

I'll say it for the millionth time:  The PS3's drive speed is the same speed across the disc, so on a single layer DVD the 360 can place data that reads faster, but it has to be in the faster section.  For dual-layer DVDs on 360 the read times decrease, so the PS3 reads faster.  Obviously, hard drive installs make load times even better, apparently reducing them to 0 for DMC4.  Nothing wrong with that.

They ported it from a pc, therefore they do not use the CELL for DMC4 just the graphics card and ram.

Since ps3 has only 256mb of ram available for the gaming aspect, the 360 has about over 412mb.

They need the 5 gigs to replace the needed ram in order to run at 60fps at 640p HD.

Hello

I really love your posts Leo. =)

So much non-sense i so little words !

Bye.

Zones : I still don't understand all the love for Blizzard, what was the last game they developed worth playing?

sorry accidently posted twice. Dunno how that happened

The game was originally built for the ps3, so there has to be a reason that we do not know yet. I always prefer to buy games on the console it was originally developed for. I will not buy it on my 360. I am not bashing the 360 version, but for some reason despite the problematic idea of the install it is being said that the ps3 version is stated t be better in a few ways. This is just rumors being made by the developers. Despite the variations of the games running factor of each system I hope it proves to be phenominal on both systems.
