Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony PS3 Exclusives - First Party

Sony fans have been dissapointing. It's December and we still haven't had a single thread titled "next year will be the best year Eva!".

What's taking you guys so long?

Lets take a look at the MS exclusives.. (do note that I don't consider PC/360 as exclusives).

(Must have easily missed a few^)

As for the whole 2011 or what you said about speculations part, Like i said: Its merely speculations. But I will be bumping this topic once they get confirmed :D. I cannot believe ND worked on two games while Santa monica has.. been helping with one lol.

You missed a lot, and I consider PC/360 still a 360 exclusive because a gaming PC cost more then all 3 consoles combined. If it's published by Microsoft, and only available on Microsoft platforms it's exclusive to MS devices. Not going to go too much into MS, but you missed Halo CEA, Dance Central 1 and 2 (which are fun, who cares if it's casual, I see no difference in audience from LBP), Kinect Sports, Crackdown, and about 5 great 360/PC games off the top of my head  all I said is "Microsoft is doing only about as well" but people love to make a point. For 2012 there is Halo 4, Ryse, Fable, Dungeon Hero, and Kinect Star Wars.

Anyway, my point was 2012 looks dry on on consoles, PS3 really needed the last of us, and The Last Guardian was delayed twice, once only two months before release, so I have no faith in that game releasing in 2012.

I see much less innovation in software then I did in 2007-2011.

LOL, I'm tired.

I feel exactly the same way, and if I guessed it Starhawk or Last Guardian would be the 2013 title.

but I still expect to be chastized by osama and likely others because I'm just wrong about anything PS3. I don't know anything about video games despite owning nearly 500 now.

You said you don't want to derail the thread and here you are derailing the thread. >_>

Yes you are right Sony announcing games far too early but that was on PS3 early life and that was long time ago. I suggest you stop living on the past and move forward because honestly I found your very misinformed or rather spreading misinformed info.

No, I didn't so anything to derail the thread. I actually critisized all platforms, but because some fans are sensitive, they choose to argue eith my minor points on 360. I said, and I quote

"Oh I agree Sony has released more for the PS3 then Nintendo has for the Wii, and MS for the 360. Just saying, lots of the upcoming games in the OP are only Projects, might not even be PS3 games, and that just because a studio has a game confirmed, doesn't mean you should expect it soon (as in 2011)."

"4 games isn't that much for a full year, but then again Nintendo is doing no better. (But Nintendo is releasing a new console to be fair), and MS also has a small announced lineup. The gen is ending (hopefully)."

That's it concerning everything off topic.

My main point is Sony often announces game early into the lifecycle, and looking at the OP, we shouldn't expect more then 4 games for 2011, even that is no garentee. Project's don't count, that can release any time, for all we know, these are early PS4 titles which will also get crazy delays.

Hope PS4 comes out soon, holding out on replacing my PS3 because I know it's comming.

They've only just announced a brand new game from one of their biggest devs, and Microsoft aren't going to rush them because they still have Halo 4 to release.

Sorry, it's going to be a while I think, Autumn 2013 would be my guess. You're going to have to replace it if you want to play Tales of Graces F anyway.

Yup, I'm thinking Autumn 2013 as well, and I refuse to get first gen so I won't see a PS4 for at least 3 years.

I'll borrow a friends PS3 for Tales of Graces and Xillia, but I like to own games, so I'm looking forward to the PS4.

Yeah, but you have to remember that this thread wasn't implying that all those games, or even the majority of them, would release next year (that would be silly). The thread's intention was to discuss the relatively large number of developers currently working on bringing experiences to the PS3 for the first time. That's why people are jumping on you.

That looks like the perfect mix of new IPs and AAA existing franchises :)

It's because this year was probably the PS3s best year

It's more impressive when you look at the Vita launch lineup / other games too... that system is hardly suffering.

Glad ND have got a new IP too, really looking forward to playing UC3 but i think it needs a rest after that. 3 for me is that magic number when things risk getting stale, put UC4 out as the PS4's first big xmas game in 2014 plz.

A true ps3 fan knows the PS3's best year is ALWAYS next year.

2008:
Gears 2

2009:
Forza 3
Halo ODST
Halo wars

2010:
Alan wake
Halo reach

2011:
Gears 3
Forza 4

(Must have easily missed a few^)

It's mostly games that are sequels, and coming after the game has already launched once n the platform.

The last guardian, team ico has yet to release an actual game on the PS3, thats why its taking so long.

Naughty dog has been spot on with Uncharted 2 & 3.

Killzone 2 was the first to launch, spot on with 3.

LBP2 was delayed just like Gears 3 was.. nothing really omfg about that.

GT5 once again first game to launch (minus prolouge) unlike Forza that has had 3 games over the course of GT5. PD are just slow ill give ya that, they put too much content into their game and Turn 10 are even bigger than they are in terms of people working there lol.

Thing is, when you have not established a franchise yet, you will make a big deal out of it way before. Alan wake comes to mind.

But when you have a brand like Halo Gears Forza, after the very first iterations, theres no need to have a 5 year ass : Yeaah man its coming.

Even Sony follows that. Only difference is: Sony is putting out so much more and a lot of it is actually new (not to mention they started getting the games quite late, so they had to promote something in the early years).

Yes you can find black sheeps within the Sony first party that might take longer (Team Ico & PD) but theres no chance that the majority of the Sony exclusives once already landed, will come out within a reasonable time frame. And that majority just might be 2 or 3x the size of Microsofts so it is not nearly as noticeable.

I'm a gamer and I love to be excited over games and I do have a nice shair of patience, especially since im being spoiled with so many games. Go ahead and announce shit already now if you're gonna release it 5 years: I dont give a fuck! I love it! XD

You missed a lot, but different strokes for different folks. MS approach definitely works, maybe even better than Sony as they get all 3rd party games on their system, oftentimes the superior version, and usually have some exclusive DLC to make people more interested in buying that  version of the game. People don't understand that having a huge amount of 1st party studios is a huge risk. If the studio does not deliver then you're making money. You have to pay for contractors and employees, life insurance, 401k, employee events, etc etc. You also have to pay for regular business expenses like equipment, building rentals, electricity, cleaning, etc etc. It's a major expense, yes, if MS bought Epic then Gears would be exclusive forever and they wouldn't have to keep paying Epic to keep the franchise exclusive, but how many "Gears" are out there? Fortnite looks like a bomb in the making unless it's an XBLA/PSN/Steam game. Just think of it this way, SP makes one game every 2 years, if they increase their size to 100 employees, they would be unprofitable and cost Sony money. As a matter of fact, that's what happened with Evolution after a couple of Motorstom games bombed. If you remember they had to lay some people off and merge them with London studios. Hopefully this new Motorstorm for PSN is better and sells better.

MS approach is definitely a safer approach than Sony,  Sony's approach = high risk, high reward, but they haven't gotten rewarded yet, even with all this talent and 1st party they haven't gotten a game that sells as much as, say, Halo, or even Gears.
