Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 tops US but PS3 leading worlwide?

If you are wondering whether Microsoft’s flagship console is still conquering the U.S. market, then you should not be worried as the infamous Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said that the Xbox 360 topped November’s sales but globally it’s still up to everyone’s bet.

Reporting to investors today, Pachter mentioned that Xbox 360 sales crossed 1.44 million units in November, making it a 5 percent gain over the same period last year. Microsoft, in contrast, has easily beat both it’s rivals the Wii and PS3, which saw unit sales hit 1.05 million and 750,000 units, respectively. Wii sales were negative to 17 percent year over year, but Sony’s main console were up a whopping 41 percent, Pachter wrote.

Microsoft’s triumph in United States last month was specifically thrown during the week of Black Friday. The successful software firm said last week that it sold 960,000 Xbox 360 units and 750,000 Kinect sensors during that week alone. It was the biggest week in the Xbox 360′s history.

However, whether or not the console is the king of the world is still remains to be seen as there are a lot of interest for the PlayStation 3 in Europe and Asia which emerges as the rising market to the gaming industry.

I think PS3 is "leading" worldwide, but not "dominating" worldwide. I don't think lead/top = domination.

360 has US on Lock its too late for that to change this gen. I prefer my PS3 so doesnt matter to me is PS3 sold 1 million of 750,000 consoles in Nov. Doesnt change how I feel when I play the games I love.

World wide the PS3 is still behind the Xbox 360 which is still behind the WII. Doesnt suggest the PS3 is dominating at all (unless third place is for domination now?)

PS3 doesn't dominate anywhere. Tell me one significant market where the PS3 dominates the install base...

It is 3rd you know.

...and how can you dominate globally if you are last by a mile in the biggest market on the globe? I know the US isn't the world, but it is still part of it.

Neither does the 360, if you are talking about total install base.

If you are talking about currently, the PS3 dominates Japan.  But, I forgot - Japan doesn't count.

2nd Q shipments seem to say the PS3 dominated the 360 by quite a bit.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Well the US is the biggest market and is also responsible for the majority of software sales. If you can't win there, then even if your winning elsewhere.....your not leading worldwide.

And I figured that after 5 years of being 3rd place that people would stop saying these silly proclamations.

Japan counts.....but compare what the average sales of hardware are there compared to those in the US, not to mention Japan doesn't have Black Friday deals. Ya.....Japans kinda insignificant by comparison.

Also relevant to say that since Sep 2008 360 had no price cuts. None. PS3 had one in 2009 ($100) and again this year ($50). PS3 isn't dominating so much as clawing and scratching to play catch up, as it is still last place.....and bleeding alot of red ink.

What a worthless article 0_o first it's using Pachters predictions, then it talks about Europe and Asia, but gives no figures?

nothing new really...

I think Pachter and that Jesse Divinich still probably think the ps3 will overtake the Wii eventually. I remember both saying back in '07 that the ps3 would be #1 by 2008 or 2009.
