Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS can finally play 3D videos from SD card

a very cool update!!

update and use this to convert videos to .avi format which the 3DS uses, you can of course convert 3D videos and watch them in 3D, on 3DS

can anyone try a video more than 10 minutes, hopefully there is no limit!

Nintendo updated the firmware for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan, Europe, and the US. Version 3.0.0-5 comes with a large number of major new features as well as some minor ones-

3D Video Recording
3D Stop motion/timelapse recording
Enhancements to Streetpass including Find Mii II / Streetpass Quest II and new puzzle swap panels
Ability to download limited time demos for retail 3DS games from the eshop
You can now purchase Downloadable content for games
Ability to download files while in sleep mode
Software can now be transferred between multiple 3DS systems
Accomplishments (Nintendo's "achievements", limited to Streetpass Mii Plaza for now but will likely expand)
QR Code function improvements
Improved online
Nintendo Zone
Improved system security (blocks some flashcards)

For people with a Japan region 3DS, you can check out a free limited play demo of Monster Hunter Tri G, Cooking Mama 4, Dead or Alive Dimensions, Puyo Puyo, and Crayon Shin-chan 3DS. All are available on the Japanese eshop (hopefully demos will be available in other regions as well).

you can convert your videos, 3D or 2D to 3DS video format, which is .avi as it seems, and watch your 3D video on 3DS

here's a very lovely, easy to use ''3DS video converter'': http://gbatemp.net/topic/315365-3ds-video-beta/

credits go to him

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I'm interested in the "accomplishments", they're quite useless, but if they innovate the formula they could become a good addition to the console. Anyway, this is a major update, everything looks better now, also on the eshop you can pay for the exact amount of a game, not with a minimum of 10€ like before.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

3DS can also play any video now (3D or 2D), the format is avi from what i understand

and here is a guide/software on how to convert your videos to view them on 3DS

also, youtube has quite a lot of 3D videos which you can download and watch on the 3DS!! : )

Interesting that you can apparently convert 2d into 3d and watch on 3ds.

I updated, some of the achievements are INSANE >_

yay! now I can make 3D porn!....I mean research the female human body in 3D form.

I wish Nintendo would update the Wii UI but nope. They hate the people that buy their systems.

cool!! just tried shooting videos

it's much better than expected, there are shooting options, and customizing during playback

it really shoots 3D videos, and the framerate is excellent (unless you use the''low light'' setting where i think i have a not-as-smooth video)

a great job Ninty!! now 3DS is a media device, too!! : )

haven't tried it yet, but it seems that this free software: http://mediafire.com/?u6s22n24phmbae8
can convert videos to 3DS in no time!
