I remember when the 3DS was doomed. Good times good times.

Before it recieved a massive pricecut just 6 Months after release, causing Nintendo to lose a lot of money.

On another note.

Those Zelda sales are... Shocking.

Which was at the right moment at the right time. Yes i agree, horrible Zelda sales with an install base of 11 million in Japan.

They aren't that shocking. Given that it follows the Twilight Princess formula for the most part, 600k units were the absolute ceiling in Japan. Skyward Sword is going to sell about 400k, I guess. Which won't be that bad, if you consider the continuous damage being done to the series. Spirit Tracks went into the bargain bin quickly and that's not something that happens to a healthy brand.

If Skyward Sword doesn't manage to break 500k in Japan, that would probably put the series (In the eyes of Nintendo) about equal to Kirby.  Even Ocarina 3D has managed 450k so far.

Epic Yarn managed 450k... I really can't imagine a mainline Zelda game selling worse than a Kirby game. If it drops below 10k in the next set of numbers, I'll be really shocked. Wind Waker on the Gamecube even managed to sell 885k in Japan. That's fairly huge, considering the size of the Gamecube base (4 Million?)

I'll admit i was hoping this would sell as well as twilight princess but i guess we will see

MK7 is currently the most advertised game here in Italy, I'm not surprised it had a huge launch in Japan.
It looks like 3DS wasn't d0med, after all. Neither it is Wii globally, but nevertheless this year PS3 slaughtered it in Japan, now only Mario can give it a weekly victory, not even the long-awaited Zelda could.

Which shows that the console launch should have been delayed till one of Mario games was finished ;) Then probably pricecut could have been avoided for much longer time.

Let us hope that Nintendo will see Zelda as equal to Kirby, that may lead to some real changes.

I doubt the ZELDA series is in jeopardy, as it's still doing pretty good in America.  It is strange that SKYWARD SWORD hit #1 and sold nearly 200k, but took quite a drop in its second week.  I wouldn't say the series is dead in Japan, just at a difficult point of transition, with Nintendo struggling to figure out what to do with it.  I doubt they'll kill off ZELDA.

Still, even with its rather shocking drop, there's still a chance it'll at least reach 400k, if not 500k.  Yes, it would be a new low for the series in Japan, but it's not a complete failure.  At least America are making up the most of its sales.  I expect the WiiU release of ZELDA to be much more simplistic in its controls department.  That and try not to release it too late or too early into the next system's cycle.

"In the case of Skyward Sword it's tracking pretty similar to what Twilight Princess did when it was released, so Skyward Sword could at least be able to hit the 500k mark.  Of course I wonder if because of Motion+ controls the game be too complicated for the Japanese audience which could hurt it's word of mouth."

So how does including motion plus controls make the game more complicated? On the contrary it opens the audience even more. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort for example.

I'm guessing that WiiMotion+ wasn't supported anywhere nearly as well to begin with, and it seems as though most of the user base has forgotten about it.  Either way, this cry of "Zelda Doomed" is pretty annoying.  Of course I'd like it to do better, but AFAIC, its overall total is not failure numbers, just disappointing.

I actually did a bit of a tally of TP's numbers and added them to SKYWARD SWORD's total. If the latter sells in the same pattern as TP, it'll at least near the 400k by the end of the year. As for whether it'll get there or actually do better than that remains to be seen.
