Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should I get an Xperia Play?

Guys, as hard as you might find it to believe, though I love web surfing and I check mails all the time I never had a smart phone. I had never felt the urge to own one. Actually, to tell you the truth, I kindda hate mobile telephony. But hey, it seems I cannot afford to be an "outsider" anymore and I gotta jump into the 21st century.

Putting that little presentation aside, I've grown pretty excited  from what previosly was a position of uninterest about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smart phone. It might have done the trick to know I'll one several games for free if I buy it, including Dead Space and Bad Company 2, two of my favourites these gen.  On the down side of things, I own both games already, so, I don't know.

What's your opinion on the Xperia Play? Does anybody own one? Should I get it?

Depends of how interested in mobile gaming you are the actual phone itself probably isn't the best choice for the money but with the playstation games and the game pad maybe its the right phone for you.

.

From the reviews ive seen the phone is a good android phone! It runs as smooth as the ARC (which is sony's flagship smartphone) and has most if not all the same functionality. You really cant go wrong with most high end smartphone devices...

So i say go for it! Although I advise you to go take the time and go through some reviews and do a fair bit of research about the phone as well as other smartphones and then see which one best suites your needs.

Thanks guys! I'm checking some reviews at the moment.

No.. It's ancient in Mobile Phone time.... and while Dead Space and BFC2 on android are fun games.. they are available on all other android phones.. get a Samsung Galaxy S II

I honestly can't remember reading anything really good about it. The ads were good though. So while I haven't used one or indeed, seen one, I'd probably look for a different phone.
I'd also recommend that you look for reviews on the games you consider killer apps for your phone. I don't know how Dead Space and Bad Company 2 have fared in their mobile versions, but it would suck pretty hard to find out that they're not really much good.

I'd also recommend looking at other phones than Android phones. The iPhone has a great selection of games, and you're more likely to get an optimal experience compared to on Android, where so many different hardware configurations exist.
Outside of gaming, the Windows Phone 7 smartphones are great. They don't have the gaming/app library of neither Android or iOS (it is there and growing though), but they are really great in use. The interface is really easy to use and everything flows really well.

I say buy a better smart phone

I played with it in the store and it didn't seem as good as my then Fascinate.

You should get the samsung galaxy S 2 or a Nexus phone (depending on carrier, galaxy nexus is my next phone for Verizon)

It is a good phone, which will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich before too long, and will continue to be well supported with games.

The games will still be a step down from even the PSP, but it is also a good phone

The key factor is that, in the UK at least, it is very very cheap, available for £150 compared to around £500 for most modern smartphones

I was about the mention that, here in Ireland the phones posters are mentioning as alternatives are x2 to x3 the price of the Xperia Play.

huge price difference.
