A very solid start for Mario Kart, and great hardware numbers. It will be interesting to see how well Mario Kart 7 holds up and if it can eventually reach similar numbers to the Wii, and DS versions. I'm also excited to see 3DS hardware sales for the rest of the month if they are already over 200k at the start of December.

Awesome numbers. The 3DS could actually match the phenomenal DS numbers of 2005 (biggest christmas sales ever for any console by a mile with over 600k units in a single week). Monster Hunter will push additional units.

To put the numbers into perspective:

Mario Kart DS first week (VGChartz): 232k
DS sales during Mario Kart DS launch week: 300k (Mario Kart DS launched a week later in the year than Mario Kart 7)
DS sales for the first week of December 2005: 167k

But the DS had much higher momentum.. (Animal Crossing, MK, 2 Brain Training games, and constant huge sellers... ). Yeah 3DS will have a massive month that's for sure, but i looked at the numbers, and it should be aiming at something more like 1-1.3 million. 1.7 million for December is out of its reach imo.

And btw magnificent numbers for the 3DS! Absolutely magnificent!

Well Done Mario!

cool!!

when Animal Crossing and Super Smash come out, it will be as huge

if done correctly, both can drive sales as crazy, they can be huge sellers if multiplayer is good

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Awesome news, and actually pretty damn shocking for the 7th in the series wouldn't u say? (basically the same game, and barely any console market share right now)

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Those are very good sales. 3DS numbers should be very good worldwide week ending 3rd December. Now for the global software to be posted on the main page!

Nice that's the 3DS's second highest week after launch. Even higher then the price cut week. Mario Kart is doing amazing as well.

Price cut did it big justice, and it will continue to sell well for a the next couple of weeks.
