Forums - Gaming Discussion - What current-gen games would be considered classics 15-25yrs from now?

I think you guys are being a bit unfair...

I would say Halo 1 for sure...

the uncharted series, little big planet for its creativity, mario galaxy series, mario ds

Funny how this gen has some of the highest selling software ever and a lot of games got some superb reviews many "perfect" socres but many find it hard to name a few, I myself have trouble thinking of any that could stand toe to toe with the old classics.
So what went wrong this generation, was it consumers just did not know what they were buying, reviewers aren't doing a good job, too much people buying into hype (reviewers and consumers alike)?

I would consider Halo 1 a classic, but it's not a current gen game.

None of them will likely be considered classics; I can't think of a single game this generation that I would like to revisit in 15-25 years.

Does that mean that something went wrong with this generation of games?

It isn't necessarily a case of something going wrong; it just seems as though the majority of the games being developed today will only be relevant at this point in time.

double post.

LittleBigPlanet
Super Mario Galaxy
Bioshock

The only ones I can think of are Valkyria chronicles and Dragon Age: Origins.
Super Mario galaxy is great, but Mario is already a classic.
LBP isn't strong enough on it's own content, but maybe a rerelease with the best user made levels could happen.
Portal stands a chance.

In their own right, they would be

Super Mario Galaxy

Gears of War

God of War 3 and........

Metroid Prime Trilogy

Games that are appealing simply because of how good they look will probably be remembered. So sorry no uncharted, gears, forza, gran turismo, etc. People will think they look like crap in the future and there goes most of their appeal.

I also don't think games with incredible stories will be remembered fondly because I'm kind of thinking stories will start vastly improving once all games approach looking like real life and developers end up having to focus on the story rather then the graphics, so no bioshock or heavy rain.

And games with massive sandbox worlds will look tiny and lifeless in the future so no fallout, elder scrolls, grand theft auto.

The games that I can think of that truely had an innovative feature this gen that could still be enjoyable many years in the future would be.

Portal

Minecraft

Braid
