While there are a few songs that are decent made the past decade, I have yet to be impressed by any new band, old band, or song since about the 90s.  Perhaps, I am just getting too old but I feel that music has gone way down hill since the 90s.  Most rap/hip hop sucks when compared to 80s/90s.  Almost all rock completely sucks now a days compared to the previous decades.  I can enjoy a ton of songs from the 50s,60s,70s,80s (I suppose when in comparison to 2000+), and 90s.   I think the entire auto-tune bullshit has ruined a lot of music.  You used to have to be able sing now you just need a hot body and a semi decent voice.  They will be able to fix everything up in the studio.  Singers from the previous decades actually had to be able to sing.  I suppose I am just getting old but I'd have to say most recent music sucks "hardcore".  Please list some suggestions (mainly interested in rock and alternative) to help me change my mind.

PS.. The Righteous Brothers can out sing anyone.

This thread is to help expand people's knowledge of current music (considering I previously gave up on new music).  I hope everyone noticed the word most in the title.  I am not saying all but a majority in my opinion.  I plan on listening to most if not all of the suggestions (as long as it isn't 2000+ pop), and I hope the conversation stays decent even though everyone has a different taste in music.  I'll try to refrain from using the word suck from now on.

Some songs that I have found from 2000+ that sound decent to me.

i really dislike when people say this and generalize, there is good music, but its not mainstream, i say you don't bother yourself to look.

Considering there are far better songs made in the past I just don't really bother after being exposed to so much current shit.  I believe it has been pop music that has led me to this thinking.  Pop music used to not bother me so much back while I was growing up in the 80s/90s (considering I didn't even hear or listen to most of it) but now after being forced to listen to some of it at previous jobs it makes my head want to explode.  Also, the entire auto-tune phase is very annoying.

Because the world after 2000 sucks.

It's just that a majority of the stuff you hear in mainstream music sucks. I think it's because it's mainly targeted to teens/young adults so they can make money.

yeah, i guess you look at the wrong places. there is impressive music still to be found even in 20XX.
what kind/Genre of music do you like/Dislike?

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

You have a point for most hip-hop/rap of the 2000's+. I'd say most great songs of today require you to dive into "the indie scene", which wasn't like that in past generations.

I suppose you guys are right.  The mainstream scene is just terrible now and perhaps I have to dive deeper to find someone new that I would enjoy.  I live in Austin, TX so if I do listen to radio stations I usually listen to 93.7 (classic rock) and 101.5 (classic/alternative music).  Most of the new rock songs they play on 101.5 makes me want to immediately change it to 93.7.  This from a rock station this is independently run and supposed to play rock even the indie scene.  Austin is a pretty big center for music right now so I just assumed the rock 101X plays was the best the mainstream/indie scene had to offer.  I'd have to say rock has taken just a big of a hit in quality as rap has.

I agree

but you can't generalize it, of course there's huge drop in quality, originality, creation and innovation in the music industry after 2000

this year is mostly Adele (well deserved, quality music)

in my opinion it got worse after 2006, where the pointless ''we are dancing in the club'' style songs got a terrible fashion, there are still some great songs, if you have the time to search online, but most mainstream songs are annoying ''dancing in the club songs'' which don't last more than 2 months anyway

2004 for example was an amazing year, Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, Green Day, Usher, also the winner of Eurovision 2004 (Ruslana - Wild Dances) was fresh (if anyone knows, a European music contest)

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
