Forums - Gaming Discussion - So why is there no Sonic Generations Wii? Sonic colors breaks a million!!!

Tagged games:

The Wii is finished already, aside from long awaited games like Zelda or the Last Story I don't think other games will make numbers to speak off on it. Sega at this time is more probably working on some WiiU games.

Because according to a crazy rumor they are making Sonic Dimensions on Wii U. Ah, and Colors started very slow as Generations, iirc.

I am quite surprised about this too. I mean the demographic for that sort of game is on the Wii, surely moreso than the other 2 home consoles and sales so far seem to be bearing testament to this. It does seem kind of annoying and frustrating when 3rd parties act this way. I mean 170k for the lead platform ATM. No way is that going to sell anything close to a million unless bundled. Does seem a really stupid business decision on Sega's part. Perhaps they like losing money? Judging by the fact that the last Sonic game on the Wii sold over 1m then you would expect this one to get somewhere near that if it appeared on the Wii. A really puzzling decision by Sega IMO.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

@kopstudent, I see what you're saying but why are you comparing Colors to DKC and Mario. One is a 2d/3d hybrid and the others are straight 2d. Sure i would agree that they are technically better, but not all platformers are created equal. Thats like comparing Bioshock to COD, sure they are FPSs but they are very different.

Still Colours didn't really captivate me like those two series... I just felt it was a bit flat and predictably. But maybe it's the game that Sonic needed to get back to its best

hey, you didnt like it, you didnt like it, its all good, lot of games i dont care for that alot of people like

Because porting the 3DS version would be SOO hard!

The 3DS version is a gimped Sonic Rush 4 (Sonic Colors on the DS was a gimped Sonic Rush 3), so a port wouldn't be all that. Actually, it would be more of an insult than a good service.

1. how is that an insult? its better than nothing.  2. the Sonic Rush games are good so i dont see a problem  3. How do you know the 3DS version is gimped?? Did you play it??

I'm not entirely sure. I was told at PAX that the development team developed the game with 3D in mind. They even told me I had to play the game in 3D at PAX because that was how they intended it to be played. Honestly I thought 3D was a disaster on 360 and the PS3 version wasn't much better. Personally I prefered it in 2D but the 3DS game was pretty good as well.

But if 3D was Sega's focus it makes sense a Wii version never made it to market. I haven't heard if WiiU will be 3D compatable but assuming it isn't Sega might not bring it to that console either. It doesn't make sense that a 2D version never made it to Wii mainly because the 2D HD version is likely what everyone wants to play anyways.

Sega is being dumb, Nintendo's consoles are Sonic's home. Sega's consoles were directly competing with Nintendo for the exact same market base and the same consumers. Their franchises fit perfectly on Nintendo's platforms especially Sonic amd for Sega to throw a Nintendo centric title on the competitors platforms and not Nintendo's is just foolish.

I think Sega might reconsider and bring it to WiiU at launch simply because they will see the dismal sales on 360/PS3. But that will be to late WiiU is a new platform without an established user base meaning they can't sell to the installed Wii base. They will also lose out because many WiiU owners will already own PS3/360.

In the end I think Sega missed an oppurtunity to sell a million or so copies on Wii. They can't recoup that loss by launching on WiiU. In fact I think a WiiU launch would be a waste of resources. Its not that porting it wouldn't be cheap it could be done in 4 weeks or so, but the cost of manufacturing copies, getting it distributed, marketing it and getting it on shelves just doesn't seem worth it.

Sega lost out!

1. Sometimes getting nothing is better than getting something. There are plenty of third party games I could use as examples for games that the Wii would have been better off without. Like Soul Calibur Legends.

2. Yes, the Sonic Rush games are good, but gimped Sonic Rush is a mixed bag.

3. Yes, I played it. Only need to get one last S rank. It's not nearly as good as the two Sonic Rush games and it is plagued by some moronic design decisions. Unlocking missions seems to require 3DS coins (meaning you can't unlock them with skillful playing) and Classic Sonic is positioned in the middle of the screen instead of at least halfleft which makes the game unnecessarily harder to play. Modern Sonic isn't as bad and occasionally the camera swings in a position that allows you to see even further ahead. Needless to say, the Modern Sonic levels are much more enjoyable, but there's not much of a game here, just the bare minimum.

1. Disagree with you there, just simply dont play the game.

2. I guess thats true

3. damn, thought it would turn out better, thanks for the info. I think ill wait till ive had my fill of the PS360 version

Because when it was first announced, they said they wanted Sonic Generations on HD systems only. As for why it's on 3DS, who the fuck knows?

Simply don't play the game, right. In that situation it really doesn't matter if a game is available or not. The only difference is that the existence of a game actually gives you hope that it could be something and then you are let down more than if the game isn't coming at all. That's how nothing can be better than something. With nothing you don't run the risk of wasting money.

I see where you are coming from, but its up to the consumer to find out if that game is worth getting or not. SC legends, i could tell from the jump how that was going to go, it looked bad and the reviews and little play time I had confirmed it. So i didnt get it, simple
