3DS

Now you have Starfox, Zelda, Mario 3D, Mario Kart

Next year its getting Kid icarus, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Paper Mario

Its much cheaper.

Vita will have launch troubles, think PSP Go.

Don't listen to this post. The Vita's launch will not be as bad as the PSP GO's. I suggest you wait a few years to see which one you prefer. No reason to buy a console early, unless you're positively sure you're going to enjoy it.

Ok maybe not as bad as PSP GO but the 3DS picking up followed by the Vita memory news is leading to a lot of decreased enthusiasm towards the Vita.........and it won't be out til late February!

Its pure speculation and I am entitled to say speculation.

Why so defensive? I never denied your right to speculation. I merely informed the OP that your speculation was misleading (which you just admitted, yourself). If you say something wrong, you should expect it to be responded to, or debated. This is, afterall, a forum: a medium for open discussion and voicing of ideas.

It was just the "dont listen to this post". Seemed defensive to me as well. But ur right about the last part offcourse :)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

That's cause the add-on wasn't running in the game at the time of TGS, as they said during the conference. It's not essential, and there's always a chance I'm wrong, but there's going to be a revision either way, whether it has a second analog or not, and it will be a better version of the system. Have you ever seen a Nintendo or Sony handheld without a revision? I haven't.

Ah, I didn't know the exact details about why it wasn't shown.  It just stood out to me while watching the videos of it's absences.  I was mainly just trying to downplay the importance of a second analog or the needing to include it in the revision.  Of course there will be a revision regardless considering there has always been for handhelds.  There are a few failed handhelds that didn't get a revision but those aren't from Nintendo or Sony.

The real question should be when will they release the revision?  Looks like the DS Lite was released around a year and half from the original.  Going by that next holiday season would be the earliest you could expect a revision.

I would suggest waiting for hardware revisions of both. Reasoning:

3DS with second analog is inevitable, and while it does finally have a handful of great games, waiting can only give you even more selection and at a lower price.

Vita pricing is insane. $250 for just the system plus $30 for a 4GB memory card (which you're REQUIRED to have to play Uncharted and many other major games). There's no onboard storage for the device, so buying games digitally is a bust, unless you want to pay another $120 for a 32GB card, and even that will fill up fast. Also a large portion of the launch titles are ports. A revision will hopefully cost less, have onboard storage, more than 3 hours of battery life, and be lighter and thinner.

this is the confirmed first party line up from sony :

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • WipEout 2048
  • Reality Fighters
  • Little Deviants
  • ModNation Racers: Road Trip
  • Everybody’s Golf
  • Escape Plan
  • Unit 13
  • Hustle Kings
  • MotorStorm RC
  • Top Darts

how many ports can you name from that list? i would figure a writer for this site would know better i guess i was wrong

i would say vita but to be honest looking at this thread i would feel out of place saying that here...

If none of the launch titles look appealing to you, there is something wrong with you.

Assuming you can't fix this problem you have, get a 3DS. If you haven't played many nintendo games then I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with all the remakes of the classics.

I still voted PSV though, because I think it will be the better handheld is just about everyway possible. But you still can't go wrong with the 3DS, and it is a lot cheaper considering you also have to pay for the stupidly priced vita cards.

Just go with Vita. It is better suited for you considering the games you like. It is a bit more expensive but it is justified. 3DS was that expensive too anyway, there was a price cut due to its bad launch figures.

Oh and here are the confirmed VITA games, I'm sure the 3DS list is just as long, but I doubt you will find as many quality series + great looking new IPs on the 3DS. PSV will have incredible support. The system isn't even out yet and just look at that list, around 15 of them are launch titles as well I think.

3DS feels too archaic to me hardwise to bother with. I can't get excited for the 3D and the fact the console has no real online interface, next to no media features and smaller screens with old touch technology just turns me off, personally. But maybe you just want something to play games on.

Vita is a sweet piece of kit but it comes at a bit more of a premium. You just got to look at the games and decide which look like it suits you more. Baring in mind you've apparently never played a Mario or Zelda suggests to me the 3DS doesn't really suit you though, but i guess it depends on what you actually have played.

UPDATE: I got an iPad instead.
