Forums - General Discussion - Battlefield 3 banned in Iran? Dead Island Banned in Germany.

Tagged games:

I haven't played Battlefield 3's campaign, but not hard to believe. Even though it doesn't depict Iran as the enemy, I suppose the game taking place in Iran is enough to warrant a ban over there, as they find this topic rather sensitive. Same thing happened with Homefront in South Korea.

shouldn't dead island be banned in Australia? I mean we always get fucked in the ass by the government.

I bet the entire 12 people in Iran who own a console are deeply troubled by this.

Iran has video games!? That's news to me!

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Make a game involving the Iranians invading the USA and see how swiftly it gets refused classification.

Germany does not "ban" games.

The games deemed too violent will be put on a index and can not be advertised or displayed in media or shops. They still can be sold though, but you need to ask for them.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Well, actually some games are "banned" in Germany, usually those are glorifying National Socialism and/or are about commiting genocide.

But yea, most people seem to confuse the index-list with "banning".

edit: I just read the german news and it seems while Dead Island for now is "only" put on Index the authorities are considering confiscation of the game, i.e. a "ban".

^there are 2 kind's of censoring in germany, what you've posted there is right with dead island - it can be sold, it just cant be displayed on Storshelves anymore, so the news is somewhat wrong with saying its Banned.

however, after a Game is indexed, it can indeed be banned from beeing sold over here. we'll see if this happen's with dead island. (But since a german can still import it from somewhere, its not a big deal.)

Fun fact: Dead Island was never released over here, so only a minority of retailers sell it anyway. And while the people responsible for media censorship just wants to show some balls again, most of us are laughing since everyone will get the game he wants - no matter the circumstances. ;)
