Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What Zelda and Metroid for the 3DS should be

Of course that's what they should be like. Is there any question about that?

The real question is what we will get. My money's on Metroid Prime Pinball 3D and Pilotwings with some puzzle dungeons and Link's face on the cover.

Don't be surprised when someone comes in here to object and suggest that the next Metroid should be more like Other M and the next Zelda should focus on an epic love story.

If you're trying to scare me away from this website, you're doing a pretty good job.

I agree with everything you've said, Rol. Which is rare.

The Zelda series needs a bit of a change before it becomes stale (well, more than it already is...). As for Metroid? I dunno. I've liked the Prime series and Super Metroid and Other M, so I don't mind.

I like the map drawing idea though. However, if you reckon Nintendo will ever go strictly top-down (as opposed to PH, ST etc.), then you'd be wrong. They'll want to show off the 3D effects with a 3D game. OoT proved that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Honestly i'd like to see Metroid V. The potentialities for story (only so far as they open up the ability to fight different kinds of enemies than the Space Pirates given their defeat) are intriguing

The Fusion suit thing is a non-issue. It was only that suit that was infected, and more can be found at additional Chozo outposts

I'm all up for the reduction of bloat, however

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I for one actually like the idea of what Retro did for Metroid turning it into First Person, and i believe that if you did that with the 3DS... SPARK WILL FLY... Zelda, i can't really comment on, but a first person Metroid 5 would be great. the whole side scrolling thing is okay as well, but i'd much rather see an in-depth FPS Metroid... with side scrolling ball mode... like METROID PRIME

I am not delusional. I don't expect Nintendo to make absolutely fantastic games at this point. They'll only go back to that when they see no other way anymore.

With Miyamoto being against 2D Mario, Aonuma's weird idea of Zelda and Sakamoto spitting on Metroid, there's not much hope for the immediate future. The Wii U will have to flop first (and it most likely will), before they reconsider their approach to game development.

But if the WiiU does flop (which it most likely won't), then they'll be too scared to go back to what they used to do in fear of alienating their new fans, disappointing old-time fans and not drawing in the new crowd, so they'll go onto creating something completely different anyway.

I just don't see it happening, sadly. But let's face it. If you want to play a game like Super Metroid or Zelda 1, play Super Metroid or Zelda 1. They aren't going anyway...

The funny thing about Rol's Metroid and Zelda concepts is that Nintendo could develop and release this kind of game in only 12 months.

If the Wii U flops, then Nintendo will have disappointed pretty much everyone. Otherwise the Wii U wouldn't have flopped. Please think before you post.

I like your final thought. If I want to play games that are like the old ones, I should just keep playing the old ones. Meanwhile, when I say that one 3D Mario game per console is enough, I have people raging at me.

It's been 20 years since ALttP and almost 20 years since Super Metroid. The era of 2D games came to a sudden end with the advent of 3D. Since then 2D games were never really allowed to benefit from the technological progress. There's at best a handful of exceptions, everything else has either been never given a chance or been transformed into something else. This decision was made solely by developers, not the gamers. The games didn't stop selling, they were stopped being made. It's about time that these classics get a fair chance to prove themselves in today's market. I am confident that they would succeed.

Whatever happened to hope, i ask? I'll grant that Aonuma needs a smack in the head for ever contemplating Skyward Sword *not* being a Motion Plus game, but otherwise i think the results will speak for themselves. Other M's sales (which given likely high costs for all that CG, meant it was unprofitable) will likely either scare Nintendo off of that direction for Metroid, or just scare them off Metroid (and we can only pray its not the latter)

And while there are demands of continuous excellence from Zelda, we need to examine how Skyward Sword fares in the market. Remember that Twilight Princess is the best-selling game, so that as far as Nintendo can be expected to know, that's the ideal formula

I'd love a map drawing feature!

So you basically want new iterations of what the both series used to be on the SNES. Fine by me! :D

I'd LOVE to see games like these being made. But I still love 3D Zelda, I'm greedy I want both :3

Hope in regards to what exactly?

Super Mario Galaxy 2 didn't put a stop to the "We must replace 2D Mario with 3D Mario" mentality, so I wouldn't take MOM's flop as a definite end for story-heavy Metroid.

In this thread we are talking about handheld games, so the real measure for Zelda's future will be the sales of OoT 3D. It probably hasn't sold as well as Nintendo hoped, but I don't think that's going to stop the 3DS Zelda from being one of that kind.

I really have no hopes to see the changes happen on a home console first, so the 3DS will have to do. Just like we have to thank the DS for NSMB and thus the return of SMB on a home console. The big problem this time around is that the 3DS with its stereoscopic 3D lends itself to 3D gameplay titles, so the chances for Zelda and Metroid games like proposed in the original post are slim to none.

Hope in regards to the notion that things will get better for Nintendo games and Nintendo gamers instead of worse.
