Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Report: People Can Fly developing Gears prequels

VG247

According to the latest issue of OXM US, Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly is developing a trilogy of prequel games for Gears of War.

The magazine (via CVG) suggested the rumour in its rumour section, which reads: “Gears of War will live on, of course, but in what form? A prequel trilogy developed by Epic-owned People Can Fly (Bulletstorm) as a likely scenario.”

Worth noting that, as well as Bulletstorm, People Can Fly – also owned by Epic Games – was behind the PC version of the original Gears of War in 2007.

The main Gears of War story, with Marcus and Delta Squad, wrapped up with the release of Gears of War 3 in September. Epic design director Cliff Bleszinski told VG247 around launch there was “8 billion types of ways we could spin” the series following the culmination of Fenix’s tale.

I'm really hoping they save these titles for next gen. Gears is a great series and it deserves to be treated with respect and be allowed to grow into bigger shoes. It really has the potential to be bigger than it is (I know... it's already fairly massive for a single platform franchise) but slapping games together with current mechanics and technology would be doing the series a disservice as a whole IMO. If they take the time and put in the effort to really establish this new trilogy as something new and different (be it with fresh new gameplay mechanics, a planned out story from the start, more established character fiction) it could fight off the effects of "been there/done that" that most series start to see around the third title.

This.

Too lazy to make a sig.

This is very interesting. Strange how this thread has no responses.

I wouldn't doubt it. I agree with the other guy, save it for next gen!

great news for 360 owners likely.

I would guess Epic feels Bulletstorm underperformed.

One the one hand, it's disappointing seeing a new IP die in such a sequel ridden industry. On the other hand, I think Gears is a lot better than Bulletstorm. It's a mixed bag, I suppose.

I will agree that it sucks when a series dies that had some originality like Bulletstorm, but I will say I will play any prequels to gears, but would not take another ride in the Bulletstorm universe. The story and writing of Bulletstorm makes Gears story look like an epic literary  masterpiece.

OP/Title are confusing, this is a rumor but the OP makes it seem like it's been confirmed or something
