I doubt Mass extinction, as mass extinctions take millions of years. Maybe, just when resources get scarce, we'll have a flat or a negative rate of popultaion growth.

tell that to the dinos around 65 million ago. when majority of the world population was wiped out in matter of hours.

Either Soylent Green or Terra Nova.

Pretty predictable that most people said earth is already overpopulated.

Too bad these people are all morons. EARTH ISN'T EVEN CLOSE to be being overpopulated. The main reason people think this to be the fact is because humans cram themselves into overpopulated cities and get a false impression about the world as a whole.

There is more than enough space to live.
There is more than enough space to cultivate food.
There is more than enough stupidity to never achieve these things properly.

a few things might happen in the next 20 years

earth overpopulates and disease ravages china/india and areas like that with massive populations
we figure out how to live under water self sufficicently, if we can learn to farm underwater food production will be great
colonies in orbit
mass killings for resources

We'll be dead by the time it happens, so no need to worry.

This thought is dangerous and a significant reason why people are still exploiting resources. Bear in mind that our next generation has to deal with all the decision we take now.

earth is over populated, we drain much more resources then the earth naturally produces why do you think food is so expensive? why is gas going up so sharply? why has nearly every precious resource  such as metals and lumber risen in price? because too many people use too much.

sure we can it 20 more billion people if we make earth one big city, but it will suck when, you know, there is no food privacy, or nature in general.

The 'One Child Policy' in China has prevented an estimated 250 million births in the same span of ten years.

More measures like this I imagin.

This is a good policy for a country like China I think.

There are so many similar things that can be implemented, but 'human rights activists' always claim these to be inhumane. Let's look at some I can suck from my thumb quick.

- In South Africa (and Africa in general) there are a many rapes and murders committed. Not only do some of these fellows get back out on the street in due time, many of them just continue on their merry way again. CASTRATE THE SONS OF BITCHES.

- In South Africa (again. duh it's where I live) some cultures have a very different aproach to parenthood. Would you believe me that I know people who are in their early 20's yet have several children from different wives? Often the children do not know who their father is. A small amount of inspection reveals that these people do not take responsibility for their children, but see it as their God-given right to have as many (and this supposedly increases their esteem in society) poverty stricken children as they want. How to fix this? Well, you can have 1 or 2 children, no problem. After that you need to be able to prove your ability to provide for your offspring... And after a certain number of transgressions - CASTRATE THE SONS OF BITCHES.

- If you are rich and want 5 children then you can apply and pay extra tax for a set number of years.

- If you are HIV positive (and God knows people get pissed off at this statement), CASTRATE THE SONS OF BITCHES poor fellows - oops.

People are so eager to speak about the 'rights they have', but a more intelligent viewpoint would be to consider humanity as a whole and act appropriately.

The points above will never happen in a democratic country though. The general mass of people are just about as moronic as the greeners that got Germany to stop using nuclear power. Damn fools.

hmmm...I'm not in the best mood today.

There is enough food, water and land.

"If all the grain currently fed to livestock in the United States were consumed directly by people, the number of people who could be fed would be nearly 800 million," David Pimentel, professor of ecology in Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, reported at the July 24-26 meeting of the Canadian Society of Animal Science in Montreal. Or, if those grains were exported, it would boost the U.S. trade balance by $80 billion a year, Pimentel estimated.

War, disease. one or the other, extinction, something else may take on after us
