Waste of money. But when you have zillions of dollars I guess you gotta spend it somewhere.

That's not a waste of money at all, MS wants to get people to pay for Xbox Live. One way to do this is to make sure people on XBL have something to do... people -> casuals. XBL will have so much integrated in it that it'll become almost unavoidable in the future (in America at least). Browsing with Kinect and a "shazam like app for videos" will get casuals to like these features and demand more. Every MS devices get to have XBL  so adding features like this one, Skype, Facebook, Games, Bing and more will get people on XBL, it's a slow process but they might get there.

This is more likely to be on WP7 than xbox. I can't see it being that useful for kinect, whereas out and about with WP7 and the companion app you could snap a pic, find out about a film and queue it up to play when you get home.

I'm looking forward to seeing how they're going to use this, it could be really interesting. Hopefully some nice WP7 integration will come down the line as well.

Microsoft says that it will integrate the technology across the platform "over time," and that it will "augment the Xbox 360 ecosystem and evolve search and discovery of entertainment content on Xbox Live."
