The PS2 and PSX didn't do that. There were not those sorts of pretentions as being the main reason for getting those consoles.

what a small minded perspective on PS3 gamers. Thats like me saying you must be under 12 since you play the wii. grow up

@ OP - all those reason's are pretty lame unless you banked profits from wii's success. i did take it as a funny thread and it did make me laugh loved the tv salesman failure at trying to hide the broken tv

Of course I'm! And this is why (as a hardcore gamer) I think that Wii Sports is more fun than every single HD game that I played on my PC in the last couple of years. :)

There's nothing really hardcore about being a gamer, so I disagree. "hardcore" is just a pretentious term that people with insecurities use to make themselves feel badass. It's not just gaming nerds, but also movie and music geeks. There is an episode of South Park which sums it up very well, big fat Eric Cartman constantly going on about how hardcore he is, but then gets badly beaten up by a little girl.
