Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft never needed Hd dvd in the first place!!

So why are they dead all of a sudden?? Their Xbox live Movies on demand are taking off and they just even got new Sony Bmg movies comming.  Anyways, its all about the games, not the movies. Their games are still great. Remember, the Wii doesnt even have regular dvd playback. I still say, Sony sacrificed marketshare dominance of in the cosole race to beat hd dvd and that wasnt worth it. All the while, Microsoft and Nintendo gained marketshare they had lost to Sony. Remember, last generation, Sony had over 70% marketshare. That was more than Xbox, Gamecube, Xbox 360,  PS3, and Sega Genesis combined!!!

Them losing that has nothing to do with why the 360 is dead. The 360 is dead, because it doesn't have worldly appeal and in America can't gain a majority of sales. That's why its dead.

The 360 lost when the Wii sold more in one year than the 360 managed to do in 2. As to the PS3 and Sony using Blu-ray well i guess getting the format dominance was worth sacrificing console dominance. I don't know the inner workings of Sony and what will bring them more money but they know better than i do.

The 360 is as good as dead. M$ is probably gonna release a new console either next year or in 2010.

And it's quite foolish to say Sony gave up market share... it's been just over a year for the ps3, and not even a year for europe. Even though it's been said over and over, 2008 willl be the year the ps3 starts to gain considerable market share.

I'm predicting that the ps3 will overlap the next generation, and release the ps4 in the generation after xbox 3.

M$ still leads in the US and is still selling a ton of software. There's no reason to believe the 360 will be dead any time soon. It could lose momentum, though, and the lack of any major 360 announcement has to be a little worrying...

However, the 360 will continue to see most major third party releases, so it's not going anywhere.

Edit:  Oops, I mean anything that is not the Wii can't hope to succeed.

Sony should make Ken Kutagari or however you spell his last name CEO again! Now that all the movie makers have been fooled thinking Blu-Ray is selling better than HD-DVD because all the Sony fanatics bought a PS3 and random Blu-Ray movie instead of the real mainstream market home Ken deserves a medal now more than ever!

What are you looking at, nerd?

blu-ray outsold hd-dvd every week for more than an entire year...it doesn't matter what you buy the movie to play on if you are a movie studio
