Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why do you hate the Wii?

Because it made a mod here, hate me.

I don't hate the Wii, I just don't see any reason to own one.

I have never been a fan of Nintendo's first parties (Mario, Kirby and the likes), and the third-parties are putting nearly 100% of their good games on X360 and PS3.

The best Nintendo console IMHO was the Super NES, because it had really strong 3rd party support. If only the Wii U went that route... looks like it isn't unfortunately.

Unacceptable droughts at times
wasted potential on controls(not as much Nintendo's fault) NVM, it was Nintendo's fault some what. Where was Balance board and true motion+ support?
No Starfox or fzero,
VC went to hell
Wiiware sucks #@%#
Online is absolute crud (especially for Smash Bros.)
Took FOREVER to find a solution to the limited memory problem.
No demos :( (except for a few wiiware ones that disappeared for a long time then I think reappeared)
but that all means little to me when I can count on them to provide a functional system that is guaranteed to have my favorite ips.(except for the part about VC. I will forever hold that grudge. Took the best thing about the wii and took a poo on it >:( )

it's the same case with Justin Bieber, they hate it because it's too popular

and not just because it's too successful, also because it's too different from their tastes, in this case people who hate motion controls and older graphics

if it's wasn't successful they would just ignore it, but since it's successful, they hate it

AND THAT IS THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER

my god, you really did not just compare justin beiber to Nintendo x_x;

HAHA, i know i get really insane sometimes but it's the truth

this video is the most viewed on youtube and the most hated one at the same time, people wouldn't hate it if it wasn't as popular and wouldn't bother to find the video just to click dislike, they would just ignore, same case with Nintendo and perhaps Wii

hard cores just can't ignore...

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

You can't deny that Nintendo were being very sneaky when they decided not to include HD for the Wii to save costs  - HD was dropping fairly quickly in price at the time.

I call semi bullshit on the claim that HD prices were falling quickly at the time Wii was released.  Quickly?  Probably but from what price range?  From 2k to 1.5k?  LCD/Plasma TVs haven't been at a mass market price for more than 2-3 years now at most.  Hell, I didn't get a LCD TV until last Christmas (I still used my old HD tube TV).  So while prices were falling they weren't anywhere near mass market price until just recently.  Basically, the first two to three years the Wii was on the market LCD/Plasma for a good 40+" was still a little out of reach for most consumers.  While they might be late to the HD scene they are entering at a perfect time now since you can get quality brands for 300-500 for 40".  A few years back you would probably have to get an iffy brand for the same price.

(I'm talking about 1080p, 120 mhz refresh rate TVs not something less such as 720/60 mhz)

I don't really hate consoles but here are a few reasons why I've yet to purchase a Wii;

1: Price, the console has had few price cuts and offers little value for money, especially peripherals and gear costs way too much and the games almost never get cheap. PS Platinum titles and X-box Greatest Hits are a good way of increasing your game collection without going broke. There is no justification for pricing your games near new, years after release (don't give me the "but Nintendo games are worth it", its stupid, plain and simple). This goes double for titles that sell in the range of 10-20 million. Yes, I know Nintendo, unlike MS and Sony, live solely off of gaming but this is beyond silly to me.

2: Functionality. The Wii simply plays games, which is fine since its a games console. But the other consoles offer so much more, this somewhat ties in with point 1 though.

1) They have a Nintendo Selects now which granted took longer than it should have to release these titles for 20 dollars.

2) Granted the Wii doesn't have as much functionality as the other system it still can do a lot more than just play games.  You can watch videos and download demos for the Wii / DS on the Nintendo Channel.  There is a Wii Shop Channel, Weather Channel, News Channel, Internet Channel, Wii Speak Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Check Mii Out Channel, etc...  One of the most important channels that they added was the Netflix Channel which I have used at least 800+ hours considering I don't have cable or watch regular TV.   I have enjoyed Check Mii Out Channel due to being able to download Miis that look like Peter Griffin, Michael Jackson, Storm Troopers, etc...  Not sure why they don't have something similar for the 3DS considering I am lazy on creating cool custom Miis (maybe they do but I haven't noticed it yet since I've only had 3DS for less than a week now).  Most of these channels I've only used a few times but I believe they at least offer something more than you make it out to be.  Now, once their next home console includes features that are in the 3DS (such as improved FC system(only having to add one time, can see when friends are online and what games they are playing, can join them if they are playing online) then their next system will offer just as much as Sony and Microsoft (except maybe cross game chat and a few other things which doesn't bother me at all).

i don't hate the wii. but only nintendo games i like are zelda and mario kart. and i won't buy a system just for 2 games.
And most of 3rd party titles on wii are bad, unlike 360 and ps3. so if you r not a hard die nintendo fan i really don't see reasons to buy a wii over a ps or xbox.imo

Reasons why I dislike Wii:

Limited controls (Do you mean the motion?)

Not just the motion controls but also inaccessable buttons and the lack of a second analogue stick. Like I said to someone else, it works great for some games like Resident Evil 4 but on a game like Call of Duty, the control scheme falls flat on its face.

My responses are bolded.

Mine are in italics.

Games such as CoD the Wiimote/nunchuck controls fall flat on the face???  Have you even played CoD titles on Wii?  Once you get used to the Wiimote/nunchuck there is no better option right now for FPS other than mouse/keyboard.  I've played WaW and BO online for 800+ hours combined and have only used the Wiimote/nuchuck setup.  Also, you forgot about the CC/CCP which has dual analog.  Dual analog is not that good control scheme for FPS and is dated.  Being able to point and shoot is a far better option.  You don't need a second analog stick when you are using the pointer.  Maybe you just suck with the Wiimote/nunchuck because I've been able to use it fine and I am even in the Top 150 all time in BO Wii for HCTDM and HCHQ.

This forum is very depressing. I'm going to stop reading it now. I can't believe people are okay with sharing why they "hate" the Wii. Why can't their be a "Why do you hate the Xbox 360?" thread? And its not necessarily the thread itself because its not a bad topic, but this thread is an invitation for 360 and PS3 fans and fanboys to come in and bash the Wii and say all it has is rainbows and childs blocks without getting banned. I respect the Wii as a console. It wasn't perfect but I didn't hate it.

Region locking policy of Nintendo is what I hate the most nowadays. RL is the thing of the past and it needs to die in great pain and suffering, NOW!

Amen to this.  This is one thing that Sony has done well this generation.  The region lock is an insult to injury with NoA not releasing the three best games on the console.  Not that I had much trouble getting around that to play the games.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
