Xbox 360 + No Price Cut + Six Years Old + Half a Million Sales + Before Black Friday = AMAZING!

you know I've never understood this "no price cut" stuff

when the ps3 outsold the 360 being  $100-200 more, that's a impressive sales considering the price difference

but the 360 is currently one of, if not the least expensive console on the market and have been so since 2008, and has been at the mass market price point longer than any console this gen, ps3 JUST went below 300 dollars and it still isn't 199, but the 360 has been there since 08 and that's was *counts on fingers* 3 years ago (when the cheapest ps3 was $400)

but there are people who use theri brain sometimes like me who don't think like "oh the console costs $100 less it's so much cheaper". they think like "hmm okay it costs $100 less but what will i have to pay for the next years" because i don't care only about the price of the first buy. and then i calculate it with xbox live for example. and then the 360 isn't cheaper not to talk about the blu-ray player of the ps3 which is great because you know most people have a hd tv nowadays but most still don't have a hd player.

just saying... i know not many think like that but the people who think like me know the 360 isn't cheaper and if they wish to play cheap they don't think "ohh 360 above all". and yes i know not everybody will pay for xbox live but there are people wh will and calculate like me.

o...k

The original post said nothing about PS3. So yes, No price cut for the 360 in 3 years yet 500k before BF is pretty fucking amazing, so yeah, get over it.

It's CHEAP!! one of the cheapest consoles on the market and have been so for 3 years, price cuts are meaningful to expensive consoles, that shit aint rocket science

any console that cost $199 and still NEEDS  to cut it's price in order put up high sales (in the holidays no less) is a FUCKING....FAILIURE

You make the assumption that the SKU that is in high demand is the $199 one. This is simply not the case. The $199 SKU is the we will settle for that SKU because we dont have enough money for one of the others SKU.  Also fits the oh what the hell SKU.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I have no idea why we argue over these numbers when I am 100% sure they will be different a month or two from now. Congrats to the 360 though, huge deals leads to huge sales.

We will get HW adjustments but not SW since these are hardly ever changed if game is multiplat. Anyway we still get enough figures to guess close to correct figures and it seem thats not enough.

Software numbers  change all the times. Vgchartz has been very good lately with numbers, but there are few things I expect changes.

Not really looking at MW3 difference between PS3 and 360, i will like to know breakdown by country to see where did 360 sell anywhere near 43% of PS3 MW3. The only region where there might bt 50/50 share will be NZ and Australia. In rest of the EMEEA PS3 COD easly outsell 360 one by 70-80%, remember im talking about countries other then UK since we already know how much it sold there.

It's very hard to get those numbers. I just don't see how MW3 is so close in Others, it makes no sense.

Especially since PS3 keep outselling 360 in every country apart from UK and there PS3 share was 41% down from 42% for Blops. The only countries im sure we will get figures are France for first week like we did for MW2 and Blops. Spain but not till next year and Germany but they only give awards and not actual figures.

And its not like Chartrack doesnt include bundles like NPD, so these figures will be with bundles if there where any.

I just went to go actually check Black Ops launch, and it was a 170k gap launch. The gap here is 10k, so it's a 160k gap this time.

The only thing that doesn't make sense is how you lot seem to think this is 100% wrong. As if the bundles on 360 did nothing and that Modern Warfare COD games sell better (ratio wise) on 360 than Treyach ones ... you're all squabbling over 160k with those two facts in mind?

I could be wrong, but so can these numbers. It's too bad we don't know how many bundles were sent out. As far as I am concern only two places the bundles had such a huge impact for the 360.

Will be interesting to see how everything holds up next week after the monster week we had with MW3 and Skyrim. Also the week of Black Friday will be explosive as well. PS3 will be selling for $200 in most places and Xbox 360 has quite a few bundles coming out.

Wii is getting the blue version as well. If Sony had a produced a special Uncharted 3 PS3 then the numbers would be stronger for the PS3, but they didn't because Jack Tretton sucks at life. Anyway. Sony has a lead going into the holidays by roughly 1.5 million, but Microsoft is going to be shooting for that top spot.

1. no I'm not, I'm just not congratulating nor am I shocked it did roughly the same as it did last year

2. Jesus Christ man do you know what happens to a console when it's official price drops lower than $199, there's literally a similarity between every console, do you not know what that is....

3. a bundle and or/including a deal in almost EVERY major territory on the biggest game of the year that have only gotten bigger...EVERY YEAR,  during the holiday no less. really? how low did you guys think it was going to do??? 10k... 11k??? honest question

You really don't get it do you. The 360 has been at $199 for many years now, past what is normally a peak for a console (actually way past it) so for it to be almost flat in its 6th year (3rd year at the same price) and to not have the buzz of Kinect launch, yes, that is amazing. I know exactly what happens to a console when it goes $199. Do you know what normally happens to a console 3 years AFTER it's gone $199? obviously not seen as you're not surprised by its sales.

Now I usually don't get in the middle of this kind of stuff, but the 360 and PS3 did just see two of the biggest releases of the year hit in the same week. Both of the games have a bigger market in the America's where the 360 is the dominate system.

Anyway, it is clear that unless Sony does something very daring, they won;t make in moves in America. Although it is a very impressive situation for the 360. Because as you point out it is in it's 6th year and still is doing very well. The following week might see another substantial rise in PS360 hardware with the 360 obviously winning out, but it will be interesting to see what happens the following weeks after black friday in America.

Now that i checked the region numbers i see 360 had a massive increase in EMEAA, while ps3 had a very minor increase...

well it dropped last week

and 40~50k gap not really close, and should be 100k+ again later

Considering it was 100k last week I think it's pretty close. As far as I know there wasn't a special edition 360 this week in EMEAA, or was there?

There was.  MW3 bundle in all main European countries I believe.  As I noted in a few of the prediction threads while MS is clearly looking to avoid an official RRP price drop they're going to use bundles and deals to effectively aggresively reduce the price to the consumer or appeal to the CoD fanbase to drive their holiday spike.

Not there's anything wrong with that, PS3 will have deals, etc. too - but I always feel MS does a better job of judging which bundles/deals to drive maximum return in the countries 360 is popular in and sees a bigger return.

That said with a SW title over 100K in Japan and huge MW3 numbers for PS3 in EMEAA matching those of 360 I'm a little surprised the PS3 saw no real boost in those territories.  The 360 numbers make sense, and given the lack of MW3 bundles for PS3 I didn't expect it to match 360 boost wise anywhere, but it does seem to have seen particularly weak boosts nonetheless.

Still - I can't complain, things are heading to the virtual (and sure to be entertaining) tie for HW for the year with 360 sure to do more over the holidays.  The forums are going to be interesting place for the next few weeks.

Would I be right in assuming that these MW3 deals cost MS a fair bit of money  and that a higher proportion than usual are sold to people who are already  360 owners ,and Sony spreads theirs out more and  tends to use theirs to promote their exclusives and gets benefit year round where as Ms spends up at the peak buying time to gain ground,  also being the start to the holiday season and MW3 being a blockbuster  is the real impact positive as it is , clouded.

Why should it? in 2008 (year of last 360 price cut, the 360 shipped just over 10 mill, the following year it shipped just over 10 mill. Then in 2010, 2 years after its price cut, it shipped just over 12 mill, and this year, 3 years since its price cut, it's going to ship over 13 mill.

The PS3 is doing great numbers but if you compare them? The PS3 is up over 2008 but it's had $150 cut off its price since.

Yes, the ps3 is selling amazingly well, but I think it's a little more impessive on the 360's part consider the ps3 had an official price cut this year(along with one in 2009), while the 360 hasn't had one in 3 years and it's a 6 year old system.

really?

$150 dollars off of $400

and being cheaper than the 360 for a total of 3 months this entire gen, and before that costing $100 more than the cheapest 360 this entire gen excluding 06-07...where it was $200 dollars more

and you and I both know PS3 shipments so I won't bother
