Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Six reasons the Xbox is the best system of all time

to back up my previous post, I don't even play that much BF3 compared to some other crazy ass students that have so much time, and I'm already starting to fade out if you look at my latest battle report which is like a week ago, I broke 1:1 W/L Ratio after about 1 week then it just went straight to well, look at the latest battle report I guess, I don't know where the challenge is. http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/user/dahuman/

I'm playing BF3 on PC, and it's the same shit, I can kill people with 3 or less bullets without them ever being able to do anything, modern FPS that has console counter parts in MP is generally not about skill but on who's not looking at you with 1s deaths, to that point, at least Halo is still somewhat respectable on that front as to most other console shooters. Dumbed down as in the general speed is super slow and the whole competition aspect is shot to shit due to the way they generally work these days. There is a reason why Halo is the only respectable competition FPS on console with the way they balanced the game, unless somebody gets a sniper rifle anyways. The only N64 shooter I played was Golden Eye, it always came down to the sniper rifle, mines, and oddjob, it was a fun party game, but it was never at the level of Quake back in the days.

I say this again like I have in other threads, try to sign up for Tribes Ascend beta, play that shit, see how well you can do on that game now that you are so pro console FPS, that will be your scale on skill based shooter. Not to mention the maps are much bigger. I have no issue with consoles when it comes to other genres, it just won't be my 1st choice when it comes to FPS or FPS game design for as long as there is PC gaming.

I have no problem with playing military shooters since my friends play them, I'm also usually on the winning team, shit's just not that challenging and I tend to fade out much faster due to boredom after 1-3 months.

Why are you playing BF3? If that's not the kind of FPS you enjoy, find something more your style. I didn't enjoy it either, but I don't consider it bad.

So dumbed down to you means they run slow? I don't consider that dumbed down at all.

Halo is great, but I've heard CoD fans say its slow. Or as you would call it, "dumbed down."

Goldeneye N64 is a lot more similar to modern games than Quake.

1-3 months of entertainment sounds pretty good to me. As I've gotten older I just don't stick to a game, I'm always looking to start a new game. I don't know what your story is.

seems as if i've failed to comment on the obvious. although xbox brought all these great games to the industry the PS3, PS2, and PS1 the biggest verity of games and that way more important then what any other console has ever done.

Yea to bad it goes down as the one biggest flops in gaming history without having to sell over 30million units LOL!!!

You know, making FPS relevant on consoles is cool and all, but man.... FPS fucking sucks these days after major devs went to consoles, massive dumb downs, auto-aim, and fucking cliche as hell. I really miss the days of super fast FPS tension action where skill is required instead of luck (look the guy can't see me atm, 3 bullets or 1 hit knife kill dead!). At least there is Tribes Ascend I guess.

i so agree wth this. the battles have ended. now a days its point click shoot and you've got a kill. glodeneye 64 amongs other pc games was a true battle and yesy of skill.

Like I said, already fading away lol, it's been a week since I last played a match, I like it, but it's so much luck based and the net code actually reward people with high ping lol.

Running slow is a control issue, they are forced to design FPS games that way these days since Halo happened because Halo did it right on consoles, but that in term changed dev design choices to where snipers are too good on a mouse setup and nobody bothered to think about how FPS'd play on faster and more accurate controls. CoD's problem comes in the auto-aim aspect of the game where the bullets would literally curve to hit shit on consoles, it's really a non-resolvable issue when it comes to dual analog FPS game design.

Yep, that's why Golden Eye was a party game for me, it was fun with friends over because there are a lot of assists for my buddies that used to not play FPS a lot, but these days, things are conducted online, the last fun I really had on a console FPS online was Halo 3 with Gravity Hammer matches and that was bat shit fun as hell, I haven't gotten that same feeling on a console style FPS MP since that............ look at what we've had in the past few years, not that FPS has changed dramatically but I've never felt like I'm playing the same shit over and over as much as I have.

hehe, I'm hoping you've played Counter-Strike or Team Fortress (original mod on Quake or new on Source, don't matter,) those were definitely not 1-3 months games, it's like people don't know how to make things fun for me anymore, but money talks, consoles make more, nothing I can do about it ^^;;; I just hope more games will be built for e-sports since I seem to enjoy those style of games more.

n64 should have been the first console with dual analog. those c buttons sucked ass for goldeneye. i playd alot of goldeneye. even this gen and it was always a multiplyer war.

Most innovative? Possibly. Best ever? Hard to argue. One person I know would say NES, but then again, that had more crappy, garbage, and pathetic games because Nintendo let anyone and everyone make games for them. And with no internet, you were bound to get ripped off. Another of my friends loves the dreamcast... but then again, that died fast. The Xbox introduced things that are done much better by the current 360... so does that make it better? No. I'd take the 360 in a heartbeat.

To me, newer is better. Consoles can be innovative all they want, but this is technology. I don't wish I had a bulky 5 lb. cell phone instead of my smartphone at all. Just like I don't wish to play PS1 games or Atari games instead of games on a 360 or PS3. I like the best graphics with the best stories and the best gameplay. People tend to romanticize the past... fact is, the stuff now is better for a reason. I get that this site leans about 80% towards the PS3, given posts mentioned in this topic. But really? You liked it when ONLY the Japanese dominated console gaming? Do you even realize how many sucky games there were because of that? Competition is a GOOD thing as it makes people up their games, creatively as well as pushing technology. Sure, you hate on CoD games made by the "west" but take off your blinders and see that a heck of a lot more than just CoD games have come from the west. Plus, when it was all Japanese gaming, it was considered a nerd thing. Now it's mainstream and cool.

Innovative is one thing, but the best is what we have now... and in 5 years, the best will be what we have then.

BOOM!  FACE KICK!

the original xbox is the best console of all time, in the best console generation of all time.
halo CE was one of the best shooters to come out.

xbox did everything right, it had the best exclusives, (the controler S) had the best controller, had a diverse game library great online, and had a hard drive included! no more memory card is full BS

360 is still on top this gen, but without exclusives it won't survive the jump till next gen unless MS has some secret stuff in the works
