The Xbox did some cool stuff but best system of all time? I have to disagree there.
my bad thought it was for 360
then no, i dont believe the first x-box was the best overall for that gen but some of my 6 points still hold value for the 1st x-box
@ mjk45 since i was referring to the 360 i meant it as a that is the point for HDDs on HD consoles so games can load faster ect., it defeats the purposes of this gens sonys ps3 console that can use any laptop HDD but other than mandatory installs on select games and for other non gaming uses, the use of the universal HDD idea didnt take full advantage of HD gaming consoles and HDDs, more so in sonys case since they would of benefited more b/c of there slower blu ray drive

This. Calling the Xbox the best system of all time is just ridiculous but it was arguably the most influential console last gen.

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
perhaps the original xbox was a tad ahead of its time. As good as it was it couldn't compensate for the lack of third party support in comparison to the PS2, namely from the top japanese developers at the time (most notably square and konami) and many of the top tier games such as Vice City and San Andreas were released a year earlier on PS2. Lets also not forget that Microsoft admitted that having the hard drive standard handicapped the system because it increased the costs of manufacturing significantly giving it a competitive disadvantage. The innovation the system should be remembered for the most is bringing a true online console gaming experience.
To say its the best console of all time though hardly, In the end best console of all time would be measured in my opinion by the number of classic games (take your pick NES, SNES, N64). Even if we were to say it was the most innovative other consoles like the N64 have an argument.
So basically it brought PC gaming to consoles. Hence, the PS3 is following the path as well. Both HD consoles this gen are basically PCs under the TV.
For me, the original Xbox opened Pandora's box for gaming. I personally liked the days of Japanese dominance on console, no patches, no DLC. I always thought Western gaming was better suited for the PC.

Why you keep calling the x360 is like the ps2 for the 7th Generation, The game library for the x360 will never can be compared with the game library for the ps2, In the ps2 a LOT of new ÏP´s were made, the 360 only take franchises that already existed, maybe the only new IP that is created for the x360 that the people clearly will remember is Gears of War, in the ps2 you had a LOT of IP created for the system, the x360 WILL NEVER BE like the ps2 of the 7th generation NEVER EVER!!!

Isn't one of Halo's main "pulls" as a game the 4 player split-screen coop, getting friends round the house with a few beers and loads of junk food. Trash talking and having loads of fun?
