Forums - Sales Discussion - VGChartz is overtracking Halo Reach or undertracking Alan Wake

Okay so... It's come to my attention (And numerous other people) that the Halo Reach holiday bundle is being included in total Halo Reach sales here.

http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales-data/35024/halo-reach/

Usually, there would be no problem with this. Bundled games are counted all the time. Just take a look at the bundle itself though.

Halo Reach isn't a hard copy. It's a digital download.

Now take a look at last Years Holiday bundle for the 360.

Yep, Alan Wake had the exact same bundle last Year.

Problem? The Alan Wake bundle last Year was never counted in the total sales for the game. Why? Because it was a digital download.

If VGChartz is counting Halo Reach digital sales into the Halo Reach total, isn't it fair that the same is done for Alan Wake? You could probably argue for multiple other games to have digital downloads counted, too.

I know Seece pretty much answered this question in the sales thread but I'd just like to say that they were undertracking Alan Wake (Holiday bundle from last year) and they were tracking Halo Reach pretty much right on....but that's going to change once they ax those sales :/

Why would they do that?

Very valid point, in my opinion.

Because VGChartz has always only tracked hard retail copies of games. Not digital downloads.

Last Year, Alan Wake was bundled in with the 360 in the exact same way, a digital download code. The numbers were never counted towards Alan Wake total sales.

The point is - If VGChartz can track sales of one game, counting digital downloads, then VGChartz has to track other games with digital downloads sales.

Reach is already overtracked by atleast 1.5m in NA alone according to NPD.

This thread isn't about any of that, it's about VGChartz tracking digital download games.

You should mention that in the Americas Up thread. Providing you have proof of course.

Because there is no real accurate way for VGChartz to get that data. As far as I know.

I read somebody saying the VGC will adjust Reach soon to not count these digital bundles.

I think that's fair.
