were the fuck is selnor and Nsanity?? we need them in this thread for their unbiased input

I don't know why Nsanity isn't in here.  I guess he mainly likes to start threads.

I don't think Selnor's obsession is the business side of things.  His obsession is mainly trying to prove that the 360 hardware is more capable than the PS3 hardware - which usually ends up backfiring to him.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Kowenicki and Seece.

Are you guys both so insecure that you can't stand to have Sony around? I'm sorry, nothing against you both personally. But since I've been on this site, I've never agreed with a single post you guys have came up with.

You're all acting like this is news that Sony is in loss. They were in loss for a while, they're still around... are they not?
I really don't like this thread at all, it attracts arguments.

I don't post negative Sony news (not that I think there is anything wrong with it, actually attacking the OP is wrong) but no I'm not 'insecure' I have no personal want for Sony to go under, don't get me wrong I won't be crying a river if they do go under, but I'd prefer they stay for the sheer fact I don't want Apple in gaming, and they would surely jump at the chance to replace Sony. I am also not wholly surprised you disagree with either of our posts though, arnt you one step away from a permaban for trolling Microsoft/360?

Anybody know what it is that is dragging SONY down? Is it TV's? Playstation? Smart phones?

Wow ...

Looking at numerous responses here, it's clear to me that a lot of people here don't like the realities of the world that we live in.  I'd imagine many of you are young.  I remember when I was younger how I ignored the signs that Sega as a hardware company was in serious trouble.  And then, one fateful day, I pulled up Gamespot on my PC and saw this.  I was at a complete and utter loss.  Devasted.  Sick to my stomach.  Why?  Because I was unprepared for what all of the signs said could happen when it actually did.

You guys can immaturely attack the OP or other posters here all you want for simply sharing what economic experts and analysts have said, but it doesn't change the reality of the situation.  YOU need to prepare for the possibility that the Sony of the not-too-distant future may be very different than the Sony you love right now.  The economic problems of this world are great and many, and it's foolish to think that everything is going to just work itself out and be better.  Don't live in denial.  Be prepared for what could happen so you're not left at a complete and utter loss, devasted and sick to your stomach.

Because it's clear that for a lot of you, when it comes to the possible future, {click here}.

Windows phone is a joke atm. Check out the latest headline, android devices sold like 60. some million units in Q3 and its marketshare doubled from 25% to a whopping 52%.

http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/88474/android-accounts-for-majority-of-smartphone-sales-in-q3/

Compare that to 2.2 to 1.7 million decrease YoY for WP.

The only thing Microsoft is doing well in the phone space is leaching off profits from Google's successful Android platform.

I have seen this posted elsewhere, but it really isnt possible. Windows Phone did not release until November 8th 2010. What am I missing? The 1st measurement for YoY will be end of this quarter (12/31/2011).

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Am a bit confused here. Not for one minute claiming to be a finance expert but didn't the PS3 recently receive a price drop? I thought at the time that it seemed like financial suicide, given that at the time Nintendo were reporting massive losses due to the strong yen. Surely the self same problem that would make the price cut a risky move? Is it all divisions of Sony that are reporting a loss? Due to the reasons i mentioned earlier i wouldn't be surprised if the gaming/playstation division were losing money but i would expect a strong yen to affect all of Sony's many divisions.

Speaking competely unbiasedly, i would have to say that given my ignorance of most things Sony, (again, i'm no expert) i'm of the impression that Playstation is one of Sony's most profitable divisions. So just to put some context to this discussion, from an outsiders' (ie, me) point of view i'd say the gaming division is going nowhere. I feel that Sony would let practically the whole of the rest of the Sony empire fall before relinquishing its grip on the Playstation brand.

Just my view.

We can't know it because in ¿2009? they merged Playstation, Vaio and Walkman divisions into the Networking division, and this year they have merged all their electronic divisions into a big conglomerate, so we can't know where the losses come from. Most people think TVs, but I'm sure that almost all electronic products they sell right now lose money in USA and Europe, due to the extremely strong yen.

I'm not so sure if Sony would let the rest of their empire fall before Playstation, this generation has bleed an enormous amount of money, so much that Sony merged divisions so investors couldn't know where the losses came from. It isn't a cash cow anymore, this year they must be flat or in the red, when they should get the most profit from it, entering the PS3 in the mass market price bracket, and selling a lot of consoles and games. This console cycle has been abysmal for Sony, they need to recover in the next one to keep the PS brand relevant.

Luckily, I wasn't even on the internet in 2001, I'm sure if I was old enough and had access to the internet back then I would have hung myself. Yet I was completely oblivious, it was 2004 and I was still playing the hell out of my Dreamcast without a care in the world.

Still, I don't think SONY are anywhere near as in trouble as SEGA was back in the day, especially because of the fact that SONY cover so many different types of products. Also, this is SONY in general, not Playstation, Playstation was d00med back in 2007, but not now, it has made a miraculous comeback and is far more profitable than it was then. As long as they learn from their mistakes next gen then SONY can make Playstation profitable again.
