Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 Skyrim becomes unplayable after 6MB+ save file.

In an unshocking turn of events. It has been discovered that the PS3 version of Skyrim has a bug. One that exceeds the many other bugs that the game already has. This one makes the game virtually unplayable for some players (not all). Once the save file of Skyrim hits about 6MB there is a chance that the game will suffer major frame rate problems (1-10 FPS) and lag almost everywhere. Apparently this issue has plagued one of Bethesda's previous games: Fallout New Vegas. One bug that was apparently never fixed.

I have fallout new vegas for PS3, and yes, it did have frame rate problems but it was not dependent on the file size of the save file but on the amount of time you played the game at a stretch, which I presume put some kind of load on the RAM.

I am not sure about skyrim but if its a major bug it will get ironed out.

I did get some slowdown last night, but nothing major yet. My save file is 5.5mb now :/
I manged to get through fallout NV without frame rate issues, although it crashed 6 times during my play through.
Hopefully it will keep working. Will deleting the game data and re-installing help?

From what people are saying that it's a temporary fix but the issue will return after a few hours.

Ha! I knew it! Thank god I stuck to my new policy of not buying any Bethesda game at launch.

Bethesda! Why can't you release a game with less bugs? I hope they can release a patch soon.

I knew it was you that created this thread =D! Just accept that Skyrim is an better game than Dark Souls ^_^! Not that expect that someone who calls himself an RPG fan and dare to use an mediocre game as avatar can comprehend this =p.

Sucks, and switching to the pc version doesn't seem fool proof either with regular crashes to desktop reported.
Uninstalled 360 version is the way to go then?
Oh well I guess I'll just wait for a patch when it hits, plenty of other things to play.

Maybe retailers should step up and refund defective product and send it back to the publisher, like steam did when from dust lied about always on DRM.
There is nothing stopping publishers right now from releasing broken games. Reviewers certainly don't mark games down for them not being able to be played onto completion at launch.

Probably the best option at this point. I was thinking about keeping mine but considering they never patched the problem on FO:NV it is unlikely they will here.

Seriously though Skyrim is such a good game that the bugs don't even really matter. Probably 95% of the people who play Skyrim won't have any problems and even way less than that will have game breaking problems

So really if you bring that game back you are just doing a disservice to yourself.
