Forums - PC Discussion - Battlefield 3 is a perfect example.

Battlefield 3 is a perfect example of how PC has alot of trouble selling software. Battlefield 3 was supposedly amazingly superior on PC and this was obvious too.

However, BF3 has only managed to sell about 650k units in its first two weeks on PC. This was one of the PC's flagship titles, the console versions have sold much better in the same period.

What is the problem with PC gaming? is it piracy? is it the lack of advertising?

PS:

I am completely serious with my questions and I will only answer mature thoughts. I know their are PC titles that sell more then this first week but there are quite little of those.

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

I think if you want a really successful PC game, you gotta keep the hardware requirements relatively low.

The most popular PC games don't offer cutting edge graphics. I mean Blizzard titles, Valve titles, WoW, The Sims, browser games, and many popular MMOs are playable on my computer and its just a $300 computer from Wal-Mart with no upgrades.

Because it isn't dedicated to gaming, it isn't user friendly and there aren't really any companies driving PC gaming like Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft do.

Your statistics are mistaken. This is a success for the PC.

Remember, with the 360 + PS3 = Costs are more to produce the game + retail space + walmart/gamestop take.

PC titles are cheaper to build, Thus 250,000-500,000 is considered a success. With Digital distribution, Take Steam 100,000- 200,000 units is necessary to make a profit. (Steam takes 30 % ) While at stores they take 60-70% --- now note, steam didn't have BF3. Take origin. 100 % profit right there.

This is not a failure. A failure for the PC is when a boxed unit only sells 20-80,000.

(This is why The Witcher 2 was considered a success)

not many PC gamers buy retail now... alot of them buy DL version of games. and 1st day buy isn't also a big thing for PC gamers. we are more cost conscious and don't mind to wait just a little for a discounted price.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

Nobody is gonna want to play PC games, with PS3 and Xbox its easy for anyone, you dont have to worry about specs or wonder if you can run it, you just put it in and anyone can play. You have a friends list where you can see if friends are on the game, the messaging system, even small things like achivements.

PC gaming is just a hassle, thats why nobody bothers with it except for these MMOs.

650.000 is not enough  to make profit though, also forget that PC games are also cheaper to buy while a console game will earn them more than an sold PC game in retail...

well is that many people do not have the specs to run such games.

Many computers can run such games but how many can run them at their full potential?

Most people have cheaper labtops these days anyways.

Not the case here, 60 bucks for limited edition pre order just like console versions, alot of profit from DD for EA.

PC is for people who want flexibility and better graphics, but we've already learned from the Wii that the mass market doesn't give 2 shits about that since Wii's sales shits all over the 360 and PS3, so, you are obsolutely right, more is not always better, or Apple would have died a long time ago.
