6. Heavy Rain (PS3)

Brilliant plot, interesting characters and very addictive gameplay. A lot better than Fahrenheit IMO.

Updated down to #5

#09 SimCity(PSX): Ahh the original Sim City, I remember getting this game when I was a little kid for Christmas. I got instantly hooked with the game music, the gameplay, how the little village turned out to be a Capital or a Metropolis... those were good times.

Maybe it's only nostalgia, but this game is THE best Sim City ever made to me.

#08 Harvest Moon : Back To Nature(PSX): The first time I heard about this game was from a games magazine I read when I was younger. I remember the reviewer praised the game for being relaxing, the freedom you have and the little real life simulation the game had. He was right in every word of his review, the game got everything I wanted in that time, the graphics were so nice to look at (I'm a sucker for 2D ) and the isometric view was great.

The mountain part of the town was beatiful and the music accompanies very well the locations. This is one of the -few- games I played over 250hrs

Because of this game I'm now a fan of the HM series.

#07 Final Fantasy VII : Crisis Core(PSP): The best PSP game out there, and one of my most beloved games. Yes, I know I sound like a FF VII fanboy, but there so much awesome in the stories of these FF (except cerberus, that game sucked hard) and this is not an exception.

First of all, I never got linked with the story of Zack and Cloud, to me Zack was a guy who died and that's it... of course after playing this game I was so so wrong. At first the story doesn't make much sense and you wonder why most of things that happen during this game doesn't get mentioned in FF 7 but in the later half of the game, the story becomes so freaking awesome and you start to understand why those things happened.

The battle system is addictive, altough I would love to had a party but that's just me. The ending of this game is incredibly sad I cried when zack died (And I'm still sad). A truly beatiful game

#06 999 : Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors(DS): Yup, this game came completely out of the blue and let me tell you guys this game is an excellent visual novel. As most of visual novel, the real awesomness of this game comes from the story, you are trapped in a ship with 8 strangers, each one with a number in their arms. These people were kidnapped by a guy named Zero which gives them an ordeal to pass: they have 9hrs to escape the ship before it explodes and kills them all. But in order to advance they have to go to numbered doors , each door has it puzzles and it reveals a little of the story.

The game has over 8 endings and the True ending is really one of the most mind fucking endings of videogames of all times, seriously the story is excellent but the true ending was one of the best

#05 Final Fantasy Tactics(PSX): The first tactical RPG I've ever played, I first bought this game because I thought It was Vandal Hearts (yeah, I was more stupid at that time) but thank god I ever bought this game. The gameplay was fantastic, the different classes were great, the story I didn't understand it but now I do and was really nice, I absolutely love the isometric 2D graphics. Amazing game, the best of the series (I mean the FF tactics series)

#7) Metroid Prime (GCN/Wii)

Ugh, the closer we get to the end of this list, the harder it becomes to articulate my feelings about these games. Without sounding like a total cliché, at least.

#6) Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES/SNES/GBA/Wii)

Super Mario Bros. 3 is the benchmark that all platformers should strive to meet. It is mechanically perfect, and design flaws are few and far between. It is positively rife with secrets, branching paths and power-ups. It is the physical manifestation of FUN, and it is head and shoulders above everything in its genre.

5. Tales of Vesperia (X360)

Just bought it this year. For me it's definitely one of the best JRPGs ever made. The characters, gameplay and story are superb and the beautiful visuals made this an even bigger joy to play. My favourite 360 game btw.

#7 - Mirror's Edge (360/PS3/PC)

I have a huge soft spot for this game.

It has what I consider to be the best art style in all of gaming, and a simply incredible use of colour and lighting. Nothing else looks anything like this, it's so stunning and unique and bright and... bah, why do more games not look like this?

Phenominal. And it's a platformer... in first person. Insane concept, but it works. There's tonnes of depth to the gameplay; pulling off all the various platforming moves whilst maintaining speed and momentum is damn hard, but when you manage to complete a speed run under the time limit without messing up (as I've been attempting recently) you feel like a platforming God. There are loads of alternate routes, shotrtcuts, and moves which I didn't even know existed until I started going for the speed run achievements. If all you play is the campaign you're given the impression of a hugely linear game, but the maps are actually full of alternate routes and clever short cuts. Give us a sequel EA, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease :(

Reading this made me realize that I need to find a place for this game in my Top 50 next year. Also, I need to get back to the speedruns, they really are the best thing this game has to offer (that and the visuals of course)

#10. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GC)

Mario Kart games have always been a big part of my gaming career and this one is the one I enjoyed the most. The two character per kart feature added a very interesting twist. At first, I really didn't like sharing my kart with another player but during the course of an All Cup where my brother and I shared a kart versus my younger brother who was alone. Nothing was more satisfying then driving by and shoving him off the track by pressing L or R.

I enjoyed most of the tracks available and I would always opt for the All Cup which meant a really close race for first place against my borthers (or a crushing victory against the AI).

The battle mode while not as fun as Mario Kart 64's was still really good and the Shine Thief variation was a great addition.

lol, I really need to catch up.

26. Super Mario 64 - N64 (20 last year):

Easily one of the most influential games of all time, Super Mario 64 paved a lot of the way for 3d gaming as we know it today.  While I think this game has been surpassed by each of the Galaxy games, it still is an example of a near perfect platforming gem.

25. Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - Wii (21 last year):

This is the definitive version of IMO one of the best games of all time.  There is still very little that compares to this game.  It was also one of the games that truly illustrated to me the benefits of motion controls for such a game.  I recommend this game to everyone, especially now as it is relatively cheap.

Super Mario 64 at number 5. The first game i ever owned, so who exactly could beat it? Stay tuned to find out

Out of curiosity, where does the "first game i ever owned" fall on everyone else's list?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I have 7 "first game I ever owned"s although I can't even remember what one of them is (gonna have to trawl through the list of MegaDrive games and hope I recognise it)
The highest of those 7 comes in at 94th place in my total list: PGA European Tour Golf for MegaDrive.

The reason for this being I bought the MegaDrive 2nd hand with those 7 games because it was a good price.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and it's in the top 5.

Sure it helped that it was the first game I've owned... but it also helps that games like Super Mario 64 and Sonic 2 are amazing games to begin with.
