Forums - Sales Discussion - Uncharted 3 shipped 3.8m Day 1: Sony

because neither source had a source.

but like i said using logic, you would realize that its shipped.

if SOLD to consumers, that would be as big as call of duty, if not bigger, first day sales of 3.8m, would likely mean first week sales of nearly 5 million.

Exactly, using logic you would know that sales of 3.8m refers to shipments. So here's an example of how you should have written the sentence from above:

Well, neither source has a source confirming or denying if it's shipped or sold, but using common sense it's obvious that the number has to be shipments.

It's not that hard to avoid confusion.

well something can be logical without facts backing it up. which seems to be the case here.

thats why i said it was up to which source you believe and using logic.

someone can be illogical and believe it sold, and have just as much factual evidence as the logical person that says sold to retailers.

any way the the sales are fantastic regardless, and with them has brought Sony/ND ~$150 million of revenue. assuming the budget was around the same as the previous entries ($25 million) thats about $125 million in profit. minus marketing, and other stuff.

As I said before, this was all about making Uncharted relevant from a news standpoint (Mw3 week). The only reason why there is doubt about these numbers, is because Sony confirmed it was sold to costumers, and IGN updated the info, and the Interwebz went crazy. There was "supposedly" contradictory information coming out of SCE, and in my mind it was the intent from Sony (some people will only see "it sold 3.8 FW", and say."I have to pick this game up").

U2 sold 5M
U3 > U2 (Internet belief)
1M played the beta
Huge advertisement world wide (ps3 standard)
1000x more hype then U2 before the game released.

If you take these into account 1.2M seems a little short, but, nothing factual to back this belief, and in fact, with the Uncharted series, FW numbers are the least important.

And the true question is, are these 3.8M supposed to last until the end of this year (from retailers/sony predictions)???

If the answer is no because there is more demand then it was expected that would mean that U3 took a huge step forward in GT territory
If the answer is yes, then selling 3.8M in 2 Months would mean a steady increase from U2.

Logic says the 2nd option is more likely

Regardless, I am happy for ND

again its more likely 1.5 to 2m was sold but we won't know for sometime and vgc is damn close as we'll get until retailers start announcing there sells figures to the public.

so for me right now vgc is on the money until we know otherwise. if vgc is wrong prepare for a hardware adjustment.

Could you use some common sense?
If Uncharted 3 is undertracked in EMEAA, I bet it would be 200k TOP.
Such a massive growth in EMEAA is unrealistic, and thinking it is undertracked almost 2:1 is just a hopeful wish.

here we go again

i dont care bout UC3 sales i already stated what the game will sell by yrs end i dont even like the series much, why i quoted you and john was for the disrespect the fail's, lol's and claiming to know what the game had already sold for its 1st week bases on VGC numbers as if they are set in stone

common sense?! you think these threads would be possible if i used common sense

i get it... your a young newer member, came on the site and demanded machina to know when the site would get overhauled and to hire you for a position on the site.  i dont care for posters posts if they sound outrageous ect. i wont judge people like that but some damn respect would go all long way.

just look at yojohn he did the same thing you did in here last yr. with CODBO on PS3 prophesy "i don't think it will but if it does I will cut myself until i'm dead" and even "kowen when vgc showed that my CODBO prediction was inaccurate "keep throwing those random darts...... some will hit the target eventually." at the end of the day VGC did adjust up CODBO later on after release and my prophesy was accurate and those posts made by those posters are the real lol and fail moments

if you noticed my reply to you i never claimed UC3 1st week in EU will be x amount i just said that there is a possibility.  i believe though that it is undertracked here based on my own beliefs and that the shipped to sold ratio is off compared to other recently released games and even to past games that we have shipments for.  and that also UC2 LT sales are 5M sold to costumers hands, you have to remember that other than myself no one knew how big UC2 would be so its acceptable for its 1st week/month sales not to be that huge but not for UC3.  i find it hard that out of that 5M that only around 1M bought UC3 in its first week

You actually thought I was serious eh?

But don't get me wrong I used to be rather unhappy about COD selling so well and beating out Halo. But now I have found that type of thing to be immature (I like Blops MP almost as much as Reach's MP)

BTW did you even read my other quote to you earlier in the thread? Stop trying to call me out on that fail comment because the guy's post did have a lot of fail in it.

Wish they'd stop using shipped numbers.

What should they use instead? They don't have a crystall ball, they can't know anything other than shipped numbers.

They have access to NPD, Enterbrain and have they own tracking service with major retailers, just like Nintendo and MS. And just like Nintendo and MS they report sold in (shipped) numbers instead of sold through (sold to retailers) as that will always make it sound/seem better. It's just industry standard. The Nintendo fanboy dude crying cheating was funny though.

They only know the shipped numbers at the moment, so that is why they are using them. After NPD publish their results they mention them. Those numbers are all estimates anyway, shipped numbers mean more to companies.

Incorrect. They all have their internal tracker independent of NPD, Enterbrain, etc. The reason NPD is used is because it's the standard for the industry and wildly accepted. Even major publishers have their own internal trackers with major retailers, it's common industry practice, if you knew anything about the industry you would know that instead of making stuff up like they are facts.

Actually you are the one making stuff up . I've never said they don't have their own tracking service. I am saying using  shipped numbers are the correct way to go for them, because  they are correct. Unlike estimates. Or do you think they have a contact in every retailer?

One of the worst threads in vgc history.

Because?

This is a serious question BTW. Just want some answers.

morenoingrato told you that it flopped. I hope now you believe it.

Who the hell is this morenoingrato? Sales/verdict *messenger*? And why should someone believe in this person for the biased verdict irrespective of whatever the sales are in its first week?

I went back to N4G to check out my comments and both of my comments about those being shipped numbers have about 50 disagrees and at most 14 agrees . Then another news article comes in saying those were in fact shipped numbers and the users say: "Doesn't matter, Sony makes money anyway" and that kind of stuff, funny how they change.

I'm one of the people who disagreed with you.Just for the lulz.

From another thread I wrote:

"What I find strange is that when Sony announces UC3 sold 3.8 million units in 1 day everyone gets emotional and in denial mode and claim its shipped and not sold blabla, while certain people/institutions knows for certain Activision sells gazillion units to gamers like us on release day. Anyone wants to explain please?"

CoD sales: sold to consumers
UC sales: shipped to stores

why the double standards?

Shipped is pointless, BF3 shipped 10 million copies but only around 6 million have been sold in 2 weeks.

I assume Black Ops shipped 30 million copies, but we all know it has sold 26 or so million.
