Forums - Gaming Discussion - Half-Life 2 isn't good

If you're unimpressed by the difficulty, try playing it solo.

BrainBox, do you have any idea what pacing is? Did you play the game on easy? Did you bother to up the difficulty? Were you playing 4 player co-op?

I did it on Heroic with a friend. Then later on Legendary. You'll be locked in a room with twelve brutes at one point, then slaughtering halls of wimps the next. You'll have to face a tank guarded by turrets and choppers in one chapter, and be nuking every moving thing with your own tank in another.

The difficulty spikes and slopes in Halo 3 are absurd and constant. Every instance is usually a different battle difficulty wise and they're not arranged in particular fashion to create any sort of build to anything else.

So you want consistancy and know exactly whats in the next room? Wheres the fun in that?

Difficulty spikes are fine, and its your actions that determine that, some people might have trouble with flood while i see them as cakewalk, while i have major issues with brutes sometimes and others ease with it.

Also with all the skulls turned on theres not much more of a difficult game

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

High tech super suit. Protects you from harm. Filters oxygen out of the water, even allows you 6 Million Dollar Man style bursts of speed. 10 second flashlight. What's up with that? That's some fantastic progress we're making on those batteries in the future.

Oh man thats some funny shit! I totally agree, the flashlight is nice and bright but its life is so short!

Did you play it on 360 or PS3? If so that's your problem. If not, then you're crazy.  You think I'm exaggerating about it on 360 or PS3?  If you rented or bought the Orange Box for the console and disliked it, it's because it's meant for PC, and I'm not kidding.

PC gamings is over-rated. Everyone says its so much easier but i think its just people who are used to PC gaming. I on the other hand have been Console gaming for probably 11 years now and I'm used to it, so in my opinion Console gaming is better. But some people have probably played PC games there whole lives and like it better. Thats your opinion, my opinion is console gaming is more fun and easier to control.

If I recall, Halo was the exact same.... Except that you can stay underwater without dying from lack of air, the flashlight (at least from Halo 1) was limited in it's use with a battery, and you also run like there was either no athletic funding for the Spartan project or they apparently don't have enough oil to lube the leg units of the armor the Masterchief wears and thus each step is the speed of a snail. Not to mention that the leg units are hard enough to apparently not give you any damage from falling from heights of a mile.

While your statement is a little bit different from what I usually hear from console FPS players, I disagree almost to the point of laughing when people say that a keyboard and mouse would make a game easier in the sense that you ought to beocme invincible when compared to if you were using a controller. I especially get the most enjoyment out of that statement when I think about online FPS games such as Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike, TFC or TF2, ect.

In my case, a controller feels like a limit on what I know I'd be able to do normally with a keyboard and mouse.

Halo the superior series? What are you joking? Is this like the 30th joke thread this month? And its only the 6th..

My opinion is that it is, you gonna shoot me down with yours?

No

Or we can beleive that to some opinions it is and to others it is not?

Saying the half-life series suck or in this particular example half-life 2 only is saying you don't like to breath air.

Yes, im dead serious.

Oh come on Tom, he's not the only one that doesn't find Half-Life to be the best FPS... *hint*me*hint*

Can't resit on the PC / Console for FPS.

The difference can be quantified in that a mouse gives measureably (and demonstrably) more precision that a gamepad.

Now, I'm not saying better as an opinion or people shouldn't play FPS on consoles (after all I do).

All I'm saying is the best FPS player in the world on a mouse/keyboard should (and very probably would) be able to beat the best FPS player in the world on a gamepad simply because his input device gives him more precision and control.

That difference means a few millisecods more accuracy to make a kill of course.

So while I generally don't get into the whole PC / Console thing as I think its stupid - there is no denying the mouse/keyboard gives better input for FPS.

And that better input truly makes a difference sometimes.  There's some great console FPSs, and you could arguably play any FPS designed for a PC on a console eventually just using analog sticks, but that control method will never be as versatile as a 101-key keyboard combined with a very precise mouse.

Console FPSs are great, and you can choose to like them better than PC FPSs.  What I am saying is that, in Half Life 2's case, the game is DESIGNED around the keyboard and mouse, and if you think the game is slow, awkward, anything like that running through your mind while playing a console version, it's because it's the console version!

Console gamers clock a ton of hours into Halo and such because those games are tailored for consoles.  PC gamers clock a ton of hours into TF2 and such, because they work SO well on the PC.  If you have not played the PC versions of these games, you really can't understand.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Also, you're tapping into the culture of PC gamers, which may be understand for some. Half Life 2 and its many mods are what keep our LAN parties going...it's pretty much the best game ever because of the possibilities it created. There were FPSs and mods before it, but the Source engine is a great engine to work with, it's simple yet looks pretty good. Mods are only now being introduced to consoles with UT3 and the PS3, yet even then you need a PC to make them...
