How typical Zelda gets a high score, no different from Mario always getting those kind of scores even though theyre obviously no match for HD games.

Yeah I always wonder about Zelda/Mario reviews if they are accurate or if the reviewers just have their nostalgia goggles on too tight.

For sure, if you took a Mario game and swapped the characters for some new original characters instead it would never get the high scores it gets. People whine about all the COD games being the same but how many times does Bowser kidnap Peach and you have to go save her from a castle, its even the exact same plot for Mario Land 3DS.

Exactly! Finally someone with some sense.

Mario games are fun, don't get me wrong, but they have no plot, no story, basic graphics, basic sound, mediocre replayability (you can replay it with friends, but it gets boring by yourself), no online......is that really worth a 97/98 or whatever Super Mario Galaxy 2 got?? Sure its fun but so are a lot of games that get much lower review scores because they have lame stories, bad graphics, etc.

I'm assuming you're not.  But if you are I'm certain you haven't played Galaxy 2 at all.

There should be another column with number of reviews.

No need. Zelda's position will be adjusted accordingly once more reviews are in.

Battlefield 3, Crysis 2, and Mortal Kombat - major titles released this year that did not make the top 10.

Yes and if you're observant, or can be bothered to look, you'll see Mario 3Dland has (so far) received slightly lower scores than other Mario games, as did the recent 2d Mario games, while Galaxy 1 and 2 received near universal acclaim. If anything, Nintendo have fallen(slightly) from grace in recent times with the critics especially during their wii years so saying a game recieves a high score just because it has Mario or Zelda in it is total bs.

So no, I disagree and would say the Nintendo games that recieve the higher scores are usually outstandingly good and deserve them.... and yes, I've played Arkham City and enjoyed it immensely and am currently struggling through Uncharted 3 (just so you don't think I'm a nintendo fanboy!!!) and I'll probably buy Skyrim as well (but, goddamnit, I draw the line at forking out cash for another COD!!!!)

Well I enjoy them too man I had a lot of fun on NSMBW playing with my family and friends. I admit I haven't played SMG or SMG2 though. I just don't see how a game that's just running and jumping can be a 98 when amazing games with great story, graphics, voice acting and gameplay like Uncharted 3 or Arkham City are like 93 and 95 respectively. Those are still amazing scores but I'm kinda thinking that a Mario game shouldn't be higher. As a platformer I'm sure its worth a 98, but just as as game in general maybe that's a bit inflated.

100% agreed. Who the hell do these reviewers think they are giving a platformer a high score when Marks, a user on VGChartz with over 600 posts, doesn't really like platformers that much?

Ohhh, so platformers aren't "real" games now?

I was just returning the sarcasm, yes they are real games.

According to metacritic it still has a review of 85 and one of 90. You know its metacritic will end up in the high 80's maybe even low 90's. And its a Handheld game they arnt a match for the console games to begin with.

Brawl got a 93, the same score as Uncharted 3 and its not even that great, the story for most of these Nintendo games look like they were written by a three old, none of these characters speak a word. How many times does he have to go save the same princess from the same villain. If God of War involved Kratos getting killed by Zeus then escaping hell and going back for revenge in every single game the reviewers would be quick  to put it down as being the same thing over and over.

Little Big Planet 2 is a platformer ten times the game that Mario Galaxy 2 is, its metacritic score is 92 whereas Marios is 97. 97! higher than Uncharted 2, Arkham City, Red Dead Redemption, MGS4, God of War 3 etc and its no different from the first one. Critics are terrified to give the games poor sores because they know how fans would be.
