Wait, didn't Ninten have 4 years of losses with the Wii U? Why does this show only 2..?

3ds made them a profit.

BS numbers you count everything instead just gaming

Looks like Microsoft is improving and soon will break even this generation on xbox division overall. Then the rest is pretty much gravy. If it wasn't for the RROD fiasco they would've already made a profit. Now all Microsoft needs to do is start being the beast they are and start buying out major third party ip like they did with Gears of War and Minecraft.

I'm guessing you missed the fact that this isn't only MS' gaming division... They don't provide a breakdown for that, so these numbers are wrong.

I coulda sworn that even with the 3DS doing well, Ninten was still suffering losses...

How do you know that we don't have informations about the xbox division anymore... Ohhh yes the "xbox" division.

Microsoft is making a lot of money since 2008 in the entertainment divsion and a huge part of it is from the xbox division. People scream android patents and such ,but don't realize that Microsoft also loses money outside of xbox as well during some of those years (mobile division). If you haven't notice xbox is become more of a ecosystem (so is playstation with things like psnow). Basically, Xbox pushes all their other products in the entertainment division like mobile divison. Microsoft is worth 450 billion dollars for a reason. They know how to invest properly and make adjustments.

is there a source for the info- MSFT does not break out its gaming div profits and Sony did not during the years noted - so i assume the numbers from both are someones estimates-
It would be nice to know who published the numbers and how they arrived at their estimates

Xbox is an ecosystem pretty much (not just gaming) that helps the rest of their entertainment division to make money. Thanks to xbox, there is a lot of strong growth in areas like Mobile divison. Although it can be said about other divsions, most of xbox contributions reflect the entertainment division obviously. Music, Mobile, partners with netflix, ect. Capitalism pretty much states it doesn't matter where the money comes from as long as money is being made and xbox helps both directly and indirectly for the entertainment division.

Yeah, I was under the impression Nintendo were in the red for 3 years straight (not 4 though).

Could have sworn 2012-14 was not profitable.

Microsoft didn'thave an entertainment segment, they had "Entertainment & Devices", and that included Surface and more. Since then it has been moved into the segment that includes Windows, Surface and phones, so we know even less about how much money xbox is making. And of course this doesn't matter when looking at profits from the entire company as whole, but that's not what this thread is for. This thread is for looking at profits strictly from their gaming segments, and for Microsoft (and for some of the years for Sony) these numbers are wrong for that. There's no way to determine indirect profits from xbox or Playstation.

B-but the Xbox brand is not profitable!

The OG Xbox wasn't. We are profitable now...

Also, of course the GameCube was profitable! Just because it didn't sell like bread doesn't tell anyone anything regarding its sales. The OG Xbox sold more and MS was in the red for a while anyways...
