Cliff Blezsinzki = interesting. dice wants more power?

Did you even read what the Dice guy said? he barely mentioned power far less than Cliff actually his focus was on connectivity

oh and we are 15 years away from Avatar level visuals in real time

yes i did.

ok so I just don't understand your post

i just found Cliffy B's comments to be interesting, and the guy from dice talked about power. he wants more power to do more. look ever since my seizure i haven't been able to read a whole post or article thats long and remember it.

i remember what sticks out and thats it.

I didn't know about the seizure what happened? Do you hae epilepsy? I have someone with epilepsy once but it was pretty minor I know it can be pretty bad.

But anyway with a quote like "Naturally, I would like to see a lot more hardware power. I started out as a level designer and an artist, so I shouldn't comment on the tech specs, but naturally we want a really powerful machine that we can do more with.

There's a lot of juice left in the Xbox 360, but its successor needs to be a cut above. "

I can't really see him being all about power, and the rest of what he talks about is online connectivity and how in the future all games will be connected and how EA's ****log (battle log etc) would be rolled into almost all future games even singleplayer ones or at least similar functionality. It will be interesting to see how they incorperate into a game like dragon age.

It would be great to see those graphics as i played my game but lets not rush this im fine with the graphics as they are now. Heck i don't mind even if they only jump up 5 percent in the next generation. BF3 shows us what next gen will look like

Not necessarily.  BF3 is more like a bridge between the current HD consoles' graphics capabilities and what the 720/PS4 will deliver.  What a current gaming rig that can run BF3 on max settings can do, the next wave of consoles (excluding Nintendo's) will be able to do in their sleep when they hit in 2013/14.

I don't think you will find a AAA developer around that wouldn't want more power in their next gen system TBH, like he says he has a artest cackground so he doesn't want to go into tech specs,  but would like a more powerful system so the artests wouldn't be limited by whats in the box just their imagination. That's what I read into it anyway but that could just be my over active imagination lol

yea i think dev's/pub's want more of both and if Sony and MS can give them what they want/looking for then we'll see some improvements in all areas but if its not streamlined then we could find ourselves paying on Hefty price tag for games.

and game budgets could go through the roof and we don't need that.

It will be interesting to see how the industry deals with the changes. Most devs from what I have heard from devs assets are usally created at much higher levels then end up in the game for verius reasons. And there are plenty of ways to improve graphics by utalising more power without spending a lot more time creating assets like mandating that all games should be 60fps 1080p with plenty of AA and tones of physics bassed objects and particle effects etc.

But I do have a feeling that most developers will go straight to producing more higher quality assets as possible...

okay - so he want's real-time Avatar like processing on a console.
What did Avatar cost again?
How expensive will games have to be to recover the dev cost?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this happening in the future too, but I can't see that happening on consoles for a reasonable cost within at least the next decade

@Zarx: I hope you're right...

People said the same sort of thing with regards to mo-cap and Kinect but MS came pretty close.

Also didn't AMD say they would be able to do it?

yea i agree, but quality shouldn't equal an improvment in grapic's. it should be about innovation in games.

Sadly innovative gameplay is hard to advertise and you have to rely on reviews (that only core gamers read) and word of mouth to sell, where as production values and graphics are easy to market.
