Forums - Nintendo Discussion - God of War director says Galaxy has ‘vapid story’

Galaxy could have used a story. Super Paper Mario had a decent one and good comedy. Galaxy also has poor multiplayer, no online, poor graphics because it's on Wii (my opinion, I played it right after Ratchet on PS3). It's still a great game, and Mr. Barlog said that. Just because a game is great doesn't mean it does everythnig well.

Nintendo could try some voice acting as well.

If these are the only things you (especially you) can come up with that Galaxy isn't doing well, it must mean that Galaxy is doing everything right that is important in a 3D platformer.

Now now Rol, Windbane is an objective unbiased gamer, he has no pre-reservations at all on such issues.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

or in other words : he needs too STFU

" I mean, the freaking princess is abducted…again."

And he is right. The story is ridiculous the whole setting is stupid beyond words.
If you want to care about the characters or if you want to have a story told SMG is definitely the worst game on the market.

But each to his own. If you only want a little platforming arcade action a good storyline may even be detrimental.

God of War may not sell as many units as SMG but I think in contrast to other guys who open their mouths without having achieved anything this guy has every right to speak.

He made the most beautiful and for many people (me included) best game on the PS2 and the last generation. He is allowed to speak thank you. You may not agree with his opinion but that is a different matter.

After he makes a game with great story, then he can come back and criticize SMG. Until then, he has no right to.

I would choose Kratoses tale over Marios any time .

Hes right , think about it , how much batter the game would be if the story would evolve ... but maybe they want to keep the story for every game the same , just like we hear in every Star Wars game/movie the same songs ...

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

better

ah it was Corly and not David Jaffe. Yes GoW2 was GoW only bigger and with cooler settings.

But you will see that he didn't say SMG was a bad game. He said it wasn't for him because it has no story (which is true). So I don't see what the whole uproar is about.

NEWS FLASH: Mario platformer has little story. Interview with the director of God Of War 2 and the two or three other people who actually care at 11.

Seriously. "Give me a compelling reason to care about pushing on through the adventure?" How about the fact that you're, you know, having fun? Oh, wait, I forgot; Cory Barlog apparently has such a bad case of ADD that he needs cutscenes every five minutes to remind himself that he has a motivation for playing, lest he otherwise be distracted by, say, a passing airplane, or the nagging desire to have marital relations with his grandmother. But, I guess you'd be distracted, too, if you had to spend every day designing an overly macho Greek-themed action game starring that "THIS IS SPARTA!!" guy from 300 and a bunch of topless women. I mean, it doesn't get any more exciting than that, right? Screw Mario and his pansy-arse Princess and that big walking turtle-thing that passes for a villain. Now, throw a few tattoos and muscles on Mario, give him a couple of blades that shoot out in all directions for no discernible reason, have Peach and Rosalina wearing see-through dresses, and replace Bowser with a hundred-foot-tall god of wanton destruction (who's also overly muscled and tattooed, since muscles and tattoos denote a deep character who's obviously got some inner turmoil or something going on), and you've got yourself a game that'll make a man out of you!

Oh, also, that Pac-Man game? Pft, I could barely stand playing it for two minutes. I mean, why is this little circle thing eating dots? Why are those ghosts chasing him? I need cutscenes, consarnit! Cutscenes!!!

... *deep breath*

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
