Forums - Gaming Discussion - GT5, HALO3, MGS4, GTAIV, FFXIII..Did they deliver?

I generally agree with most of the points. i think the comments lobbied against GT5 are a bit harsh though; even the upscaled cars look fantastic on my 720p tv. and the game out now (Spec 2.0) is very different to what they released a year ago.

the best games for me this gen have been new IPs and a certain reboot.

Around the Network

GT5: Yes. It was not the second coming of jesus but it's a fantastic game, it sticks to what it knows and does it very well and it definetly sold well.

Halo3: Never played it but I assume it did for those 360 fans.

MGS4: NO idea.

GTAIV: Yes. My brother got it and beat it all on his own and absolutely loved the game. Took him well over a month to beat it cause there was so much to do.

FFXIII: Yes. It's a new kind of Final Fantasy, something many of us fans were not use to, linear, no towns, very little NPC interaction, but it still tells a fantastic story, with great visuals and although not the greatest battle system in the franchise, it still made me feel pretty tense and did require strategy of many of the bosses.

except GT5 i agree with you

GT5 wasn't what it could have been but not as bad either

gt5, mgs4 and halo 3 all did, both sales and quality wise. mgs4 was one of the best games this gen IMO and gt5 just keeps getting better and better.

gt5 yes
halo3 don't know
MGS4 don't know
gta4 I'd say yes
ff13 no

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

The GTA4 dislike is still surprising to me. It was in no shape or form a bad game. A bit overhyped, but not bad for sure!

It didn't kill the Wii. You should have been here when the game got released, it was madness when NPD numbers for April 2008 were released. The supposed game of the generation put the 360 and PS3 each at around 190k units for the month while the Wii was above 700k. It was then when it ceased to be cool to like GTA.

Ooh, I was here actually (lurking and enjoying it) and I remember the meltdown. That was in the good-old days when Nintendo actually had a solid strategy.

Maybe it's because of the disappointing hardware boost that so many people dislike it?

I don't think so. Not a lot of people care about sales figures. For example, I never even heard about this site until 2009 and when I discovered it, I didn't even come here for sales numbers. A lot of people don't like the game because it wasn't San Andreas 2 or Vice City 2. The story was boring, the humor was almost non-existent, and the game didn't have a lot of variety to it.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

ff13 yep if i compare it to other final fantasy's it did much better than most of them.
gtaV- great game loved it.
MGS4- eh it was ok story was good though. 3 is the best though.
GT5-idk
halo- hmmm refined but no.

Yes, yes, yes, no, and no way in hell, gehenna (yes I know it's a synonym), sheol (yes), or tartarus. Fuck that game.

From best to worst

GT5 Definitely, my most played game this gen. I hope they'll start releasing more tracks regularly. Spa was on the top of my list of tracks I wanted and next week it's here :)

MGS4 Great experience, awesome sound design. Tons of memorable moments.

FF13 Looked great, at least the graphics delivered, but it took forever to get going. Gran Pulse saved the game, a welcome break in the long corridors. Still good, but a step back from FF12.

GTA4 Started out great, then it became more and more annoying. I finished the story with cheats, the clunky controls and ridiculous waves of bad guys were too much for me. Driving around the city was fun, same as flying around but in the end it was a big step back from the game play variety San Andreas offered. (Although controls were terrible in San Andreas too, I didn't even manage to finish the third city with cheats)

I haven't played Halo3.
