Forums - Gaming Discussion - Mass Effect 3: Bioware Explains Galaxy at War!

The fact that this mode can have an outcome on the single player makes me slightly annoyed that I'll actually have to play it to get the full experience of ME3's main campaign, that alone is the reason I don't like added multiplayer elements to games like this.

Still buying it.

You don't have to play it to get the best single player ending.

"success in multiplayer will have a direct impact on the outcome of the single player campaign,"

BioWare reiterates that participation in any of these extra modes is optional. "You can reach the highest levels of success in the single player experience alone, but Galaxy at War gives you alternative ways to get there." So, if half your crew died during the final stand in Mass Effect 2, you might want to bolster your odds a bit with some co-op gameplay.

I hope that doesn't mean more planet mining if you don't want to play multiplayer.

I'll probably pick it up pre-owned, it should drop fast in price with the online pass nonsense. If they're smart they'll release a single player only version alongside for 10 bucks less, I'm not the only one thinking this way.

Looks like most of the people from the other Bioware thread get to eat some crow.

I never had a doubt.

The gameplay changes seem to be pointing in this direction anyways. I feel like too many good single player titles have been ruined in this fashion this generation.

BioWare is adamant that the addition of co-op and the "Galaxy at War" system will in no way affect the single player campaign negatively. "Mass Effect 3 is a complete, standalone game that will deliver a satisfying story experience, even if you choose not to try multiplayer. The Mass Effect 3: Galaxy at War system and all of the individual components are meant to complement that amazing game and can be enjoyed on their own or as part of the Galaxy at War experience."

"Our priority and focus with Mass Effect 3 has and always will be to deliver a complete and satisfying single player experience."

The gameplay changes between  1 & 2 were enough to show the direction they were heading.  Now they are dedicating even more dev time to that aspect. They can say how adamant they are till the crows come home it doesn't make it so.

What are you talking about?

ME2 was obviously far more shooter inspired than the first.  I feel some aspects of the game suffered for them trying to make it that way.  Mostly RPG elements and exploration that were vastly toned down.

That doesn't really have anything to do with MP. But they said the RPG aspect of ME3 will be better than ME2 was.

Prepping for co-op and MP.  Why make the game more like traditional shooters otherwise?
