Forums - Gaming Discussion - People who uses guides and cheats

This is what I always thought of people who use guides and cheats to finish games. I don't understand why they play games in the first place.

That picture suits Cheating. However Guides are different, if we were to use Rubik's Cubes example, it is like someone teaching you how to solve the Rubik's Cube.

Cheats I understand but guides are helpful as hell. I mostly use guides on bosses or the most difficult of puzzles, which I usually attempt until my rage meter is full.

Guides are a waste of money.

Everything you need to know you could find online.

I never use online help until I finish a game at least once. Then I indulge myself with tips, missed sidequests, easter eggs ,etc via online help.

A good example I have of what you just said is all the spiders in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time for 64. Not sure if you have played it, but they can be difficult to find!

I found all of the spiders on my own. It may have taken me years and multiple playthroughs but I did it.

People, who aren't as hardcore as those of us who post on dedicated message boards, might like using guides to help them as they are not such avid gamers. Some games can be truly difficult in places to understand and learn how to proceed to the next area. There are also a bunch of sidequests, items, and other such things that can be very difficult to find if you're not super hardcore.

Cheats work in a similar manner. For some, they add a more fun twist to games and for others, they can help unlock certain things that would otherwise be too difficult for one to obtain in a reasonable fashion.

I understand your dislike for such things, but if you actually try putting yourself in the shoes of someone who likes them, and try to imagine why they might like them, is it really so hard?

Cheats can be a lot of fun and lengthen the live of a game. For example spawning tanks in GTA3 to cause mass mayhem or playing billiards with cars in NFS most wanted.

For building games having unlimited money is a must to experiment. Rollercoaster tycoon and sim city wouldn't have been as much fun for me if I didn't have access to a mode where I could just build the ultimate rollercoaster or city without having to worry about balancing the books during construction.

I would never have fininished Oblivion without cheats. The main story missions were too boring, I turned on noclipping and flew right to the exit to close the repetitive portals. The rest of the game was great. It was also fun to conjure tons of random stuff out of thin air and land fireballs into the mess.

In Fallout I used a glitch to get lots of money. Worrying about ammo and inventory space, going back to town to sell, not my idea of fun. I much rather spent my time exploring and following quest lines. I'm still looking everywhere to find stuff, but I just throw most of it back on the ground and get on with the fun.

Anyway I use cheats because I like to experiment and explore in games, not to get hung up on some dumb challenge that doesn't mean anything in the end.

I saw a vid of someone playing xenoblade.
He was beating up some wolves and then some unique boss joined in and beat him up.
Instead of running away, he complained about how some random stuff just popped up out of no where.
He didn't survey the surrounding before launching the attack in the first place, LOL.

People like that need guides.

In response to guides, not every game is about the surprises and not every encounter is a puzzle. Guides can offe trips and tricks and get you t whatever your goal is quicker that much quicker.

I response to cheats, cheating can be fun. A great example is GTAIII, I don't think I ever played that game while not cheating. The game itself was boring but giving myself all weapons and five stars was fun. I made my own game by seeing how long I could survive.

Or another great example mint be Oblivion. Sometimes I just want to see the story and don't care about the game. I don't particularly like the oblivion gameplay so I cheat. I give myself a lot of money or hig stats and just experience the story.

What does it matter if I skip the part I don't enjoy so I can experience the part I do?
