Can anyone tell me what is so great about the wii? Is it its price, its games, its creativity or maybe how fun it is. I don't understand why this device has the kind of sales that it does.  Whats the reason for its monster consumer interest and sales.  I am not a ps3 fanboy or 360 fanboy but I don't understand what is the driving reason for the continued dominance of Nintendo's new console.  I am a fan of gaming in general, I happen to like all consoles.  Each platform has its killer apps, its uniqueness and its features that differientiate it from its competitors.  So my question is What is so great about the Wii that it is whooping ass in terms of sales. I hope that I will be able to get one for myself soon and see what type of system consumers are craving? I am looking forward to responses and replies.

it has casual appeal, its affordable and the few great games it has are true gems.

The fact that the wii is different. the ps3 and x360 are just the same as the last gen systems but with better graphics(not important to me and many others) the wii has something different. an X factor.

I personally think that the reason for the amazing sales is the price. At 250.000 dollars, this new console is a steal. Not to mention its affordable to just about anyone.

It is really all of the above. Its cheaper, its different, and its fun. Good games for all ages. It really comes down to what is more important to you. Real life graphics or real life controls?

For me it was the interactivity that got me at first. Then seeing everyone else enjoy it as much as I did gave me even more joy. Seeing my wife who hates video games, want to play is such a cool thing. After you get over the gimmick of motion sensing and flailing around the living room, there are other great games to play and have fun with. I got Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Galaxy and Geometry Wars for Christmas, so I will be busy for quite a while.

The next couple of games I want to get are Super Smash Bros. and Wii Fit. My wife thinks WiiFit looks awesome. Not since the original Playstation was I so excited about a console and after one year, I'm still as excited. Especially after introducing it to new and unexperienced players.

I kind of prefer real life graphics to real life control. Controls could always be bettered using pheripherals and what not.

The obvious answer is: 'the games'. 

It's about the same price as the Xbox 360 right now ($250 vs $280 -- although people are paying much more for the Wii). Keep in mind that the Wii is now selling more software -- more games -- than the 360.

Like the DS, it has a lot of games that are just a ton of fun and also a lot of games that are very accessible. Too many games take themselves too seriously lately, and most people aren't prepared to take those games as seriously.

It's all about entertainment. The Wii and the DS deliver it in spades.
