Forums - Gaming Discussion - Hardcore gamers are the sun

Hardcore gamers are indeed the sun: work too hard to get close to them and you just get severely burned.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

your really getting them in today Rol.

i'd hate to think i'm being Rol'd for the second time but your right

1) The article linked is old.
2) It's Rol.

I know he's not serious, but I did agree with most of what he said.

"So the situation we are looking at today is all Nintendo's fault."

For anybody wondering if he is serious or not, this about sums it up. Would Rol really say that?

Anyway, I am sick to death of companies focusing too much on casual gaming. I don't mind casual gamers existing and being catered to but it feels like hardcore gamers are being forgotten about.

Yes, I understand the metaphor in the thread title, I understood it before I even clicked on it, but why are you defending casual gaming Rol?

and that's where you recognize the hardcore from the "hardcore" gamer.
Experience Vs Flashbang. Not that you can't have both the experience and the flash, but flash on its own gets noticed easily.

Casuals have been in luck this gen, since the "hardcore" got omnibulated by the flash, they got the privilege of being catered to with the experience... this expended the base. Though being casual, they lost interest after a while or turned into "hardcore" more than hardcore. That's why there's now the need to move from the current condition to one that carters to all again, adding the flash to the experience.
Kinect is an surprising move, especially considering the source, but its focus is a little bit too much on the casual/"hardcore" for it's own good, they should try to focus on the experience (though i'm not cure kinect is really suited for it)

I am sick of "Hardcore Vs. Casual" bogus arguments. It's not like Kinect and Wii/Move ruin games for hardcore gamers or visa-versa. If you don't want motion controls there are plenty of alternatives. If you don't want to play Forza 4 with Kinect, there's a simple fix for that, don't use Kinect. Use a controller or a wheel. That's what I do.

Both Kinect and Move are add-ons for the respective consoles and thus they are totally voluntary. Even the Wii lets you use a classic controls for most games, if you want. Nintendo may have banked on casuals, but they didn't ignore their fan base either. MS and Sony may have added in motion controls to gain some casual sales, but they both still focus squarely on core gaming. I don't even have a Kinect or Move and I don't feel like I am somehow left out in the cold with nothing to play. There are far too many "hardcore" games on both systems that I don't have the time to play them all.

There is no Hardcore/Casual war. There's just different types of gamers who are all looking for some entertainment and guess what? There's more than enough to go around.

Oh and it's not like you can't have a hardcore game with motion controls, look at Mario Galaxy and Zelda Skyward Sword. I very much enjoyed Mario Galaxy and I'm very much looking forward to playing Skyward Sword. Does that make me a casual gamers because I have the capacity for enjoying games with motion control? No it doesn't? It means I don't care what the game is so long as it's entertaining and that's what gaming is all about, entertainment. People are allowed to enjoy entertainment that you don't like. It's called personal taste and people have the right to like what they like without being categorized and despised for it.

Exactly what this guy said! you rock.

thirded, OT not bad but these kinds of threads are usually better

Because they are up all night and sleep during the day?

Apparently, someone left Rol's stockpile of emergency threads open.....

In its pursuit for casual gaming, the video game industry has been acting disrespectful to the hardcore gaming community. For example, the latest disgrace to gaming, Kinect, was defended by Microsoft by saying that hardcore gamers will like the device, simply because the games made for it will have achievements. Apparently that's all it takes to make us hardcore gamers happy. But this really is just the tip of iceberg. If it wasn't for the Wii, there would be no Kinect. So the situation we are looking at today is all Nintendo's fault.

Microsoft is going to learn their lesson the hard way, just like Nintendo currently is. They banked on casual gamers to carry their console and look how that turned out. It worked for a short while, but now they have to catch up and are hurrying to launch an HD console with a proper controller and online service to appease us hardcore gamers. Will it be enough? We'll see, but it definitely wouldn't hurt, if Nintendo for once bothered to create some new IPs instead of publishing the millionth Mario game.

Gaming wouldn't exist without the hardcore gamer. Casual gamers are fickle and move on to the next big fad, but we are here to stay, because we care about gaming. It's more than just a hobby for us, it is a lifestyle. We are proud of our achievements, because unlike casual gamers, we actually do have some.

Right now it looks like Sony is the only company who knows how to properly cater to hardcore gamers. They don't waste resources on casual crap and keep pumping out great exclusives left and right. That's why they lead in worldwide sales this year and rightly so. Long live play.

8 generations in you would think that the people who are in charge of the major video game companies knew who they owe their continued existence to. Hardcore gamers are what keeps this industry alive. Either please us or go out of business. It's that simple.

Just wait till Kinect Disney Land Adventures releases. Then youll know what the real definition of HARDCORE IS.
