Xbox 360 has sold more hardware than PS3 every year since PS3 launched. Give me a break, and this year will be no different.

I like vgchartz community, but the numbers aren't accurate.

Microsoft is the only one that comes out with their numbers sold.

Sony uses shipped.

.................and I can't remember the last time Nintendo came out with how many Wii's they have sold.

If anyone have links prove me otherwise.

I am rolling on the floor, great post dude.

thanks man

I have to say I doubt that.  Why on Earth would the retailers take a hit for MS?  They don't need to.  It's much more likley these are vendor funded promotions with MS taking the bulk of the hit.  In consumer electronics the retailer very rarely takes the bulk of the hit for deals like this.  When you see Sony TVs promoted Sony is paying for it.  When you see Samsung TVs promoted Samsung is paying for it.  That's the way it is normally.  The retailers would rather sell less 360s for more profit margin than more for less.  I doubt MS is paying for the whole shebang of course - but 50/50 split is the normal start point.

Of course you doubt it Reasonable

We've seen stores like Wal Mart make a loss on $99 Wii's with Nintendo making no losses, just to get people into the stores. Given we don't even know if these bundles even lose money for anyone, it's not hard to imagin retailers are taking less profit on 360 HW when it's selling by far the most SW, as the current king of American gaming it's obvious they're going to be doing this on X360, especially as the Wii and PS3 got prices cuts these years.

I doubt it just because it's not normal practice.  I work in retail - senior retail where major deals are agreed and executed, not stores.  The Walmart example is simply using something as a loss leader for a particular hot device.  That tends to be on an individual basis.  We're talking multiple same promotion deals across multiple retailers during the peak trading period for a lot of electronics- that's normally vendor funded in part.  I doubt MS would cover it all but it would be very odd for them to cover nothing.

Of course, unless it's made public we'll never know.  But I seriously doubt those deals were fronted fully by the retailers themselves.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

HOLY Crap.... 500,000k gap... OMG... Did not expect that (2009 point of view)

Yay!!!

so has that guy that asserted 100% (insider knowledge) that the xbox360 will sell 1 million more this year than ps3 said what his insider knowledge was yet?

All bow to me the VGChartz current reigning 3DS prediction champion

Bet with tbone51: Pokeon X & pokemon Y will not sell more than 8 million in 2013

jarrod said:The Xbox360 or ps3 will not sell more than 75million units

July 2009 daveJ saidTrue the wii has a large lead now but by 2017 the most likely result will be 1. ps3 2. xbox360 3. wii <-- wii's successor launched in 2011 effectively killing sales of the wii

2009 daveJ said: The wii will not break the 50% marketshare barrier it will go below the 40% marketshare barrier though in the future. VGChartz members: Impossible, youre an idiot that knows nothing about sales

Just a note to be added. PS3 is undertracked 50k just in the U.S.A. (Basing on NPD November numbers) and the Wii is overtracked by 150k just in the U.S.A. (again just basing on NPD November numbers) I know I have no "real" figures for this but considering and looking at the deals (for hardware) and software in Europe (GFK) PS3 and 360 both look underestimated the PS3 more so. So I don't think it's exactly safe to call any console "the best selling console of 2011" untill there aren't proper adjustments made. I will try to find sources for Europe hardware sales though.

PLEASE stop coming into every thread and calling everything undertracked/overtracked because of NPD numbers! It's been said a billion times how NPD isn't 100% accurate so we will not follow it 100%.

Agreed they are not 100% accurate but those 900k came from Sony's statement for NPD for the month of November. And I will keep coming into threads until the PS3 doesn't get matched when looked at Sony's statement or NPD numbers. I would do the same if the 360 or PS3 was undertracked or overtracked as well.

Seriously I'm getting tired of the price drop excuse. The 360 is still cheaper to get than the PS3. And most stores are giving $100 discount as we speak. No console has better deals, cheaper deals than the 360 right now.

Ugh America does not equal the world psrock, for goodness sakes.

X360 may have $100 gift card deals (a $50 giftcard deal on PS3 is on par given it has had a $50 price cut) but the PS3 has been cut world over, the X360 hasn't. Sure it's getting deals in some of those places, but so is the PS3.

This Wii is also cheaper than X360 and it's not outselling it ... I would say you should stop thinking price is such a determining factor and Kinect is worthless, but it'd fall on deaf ears as per.

Well in PS3s defense, everywhere but in the united states 360 is actually cheaper (yes the 250gb non kinect model). Sure its cheaper in united states too if you count the other models, but we all know this is the main model.  Price is a huge factor, if 360 would lower price by $50 on all models the sales would skyrocket.

That said i think M$ has been doing the best job with their console throughout the hole generation, got the best games early and always kept the attach ratio high. Sure Wii has sold a lot more, but how many games have the Wii sold per unit?

Sony has better first party though, i give them that, but it is only really relevant at the start of the generation, if you haven't picked up a PS3 by now chances are 1 game is not gonna change your mind. Early when there are not many games to play this is a huge factor, in fact i bought PS3 only because of MGS4. In retrospect a huge mistake and since i already had 360 and the game was a dissapointment. Now there have been a few games i gotten on PS3 that was exclusive, but when there are about 20 games every year i want to play and i got time for maybe 10 i miss a lot of games. 9 out of 10 games i want are on both platforms so...

So pre adjustments the PS3 is gonna win. Good.

I think it's more deserving of getting a winning Year than 360 or Wii. Especially for 2011.

Interesting I took a look at last year December compared to this year. Last year the week before Christmas and the Week of Christmas both sold more than Black Friday week in the US. This year week before Christmas was short of Black Friday week by 200K.  If week of Christmas trends similiar to last year and this year VGC will have the 360 falling short by 150K.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
