The two blu-rays that I want the most, Star Wars two trilogies, Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Unfortunately, don't expect to see HD Star Wars for several more years. Shit, it took a huge petition and 7 years of waiting to get the movies on DVD.

Lucas has said he wants to do archival editions, and there is a lot of stuff on wiki that gives me some hope it could come soon.

I think it's unlikely that LucasArts will be releasing any movies on anything other than DVD for quite some time. Ol' Georgie doesn't seem to care about cutting edge formats. His original plan was to release all six movies on DVD after he completed Episode III. Fortunately, the petition helped speed that up a bit but it will be years before Blu-ray gets that kind of grass roots movement, if it does at all.

So basically George Lucas and Spieldberg control where their films are released. COol, I hope they prefer Blu-Ray, just like Michael Bay.

I wonder how Microsoft is feeling at this moment.

Well, I'm very happy to hear this news. I was a little worried since I'm an HD fan. I have 65 blu-ray movies @ $25.00 a pop....I'd have hated for them to become the next Betamax or LaserDisc.

I love the quality of picture, audio, features, and space. Maybe it's not for everyone, but it is for me. I bought a 1080p 60" SXRD for a reason--to enjoy HD media. For those who haven't made the move to HD or don't want to--Good for you, but quit treating the people that enjoy blu-ray like pieces of shit. If you don't like HD stuff, then don't buy it.

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

Considering that they have no real financial stake in either format, they probably aren't feeling much beyond "Ah damn, oh well."

This is a very big deal for the format wars, and a moderately big deal for the console wars.

If and when this begins to have an effect on Blu Ray adoption, I expect 1-2% of people who would have otherwise bought a 360 to buy a PS3 instead.

Both will probably wait until the format war is completely over and then start work to get their films out in HD (which takes over a year for releases of that magnitude w/ features and all that jazz).

In other words, it will be a looooooong time before we see their work on either HD format. A few Speilberg films might trickle in first but I bet we won't see a single LucasArts release in HD until 2010 or later.

To rocketpig,

What about their Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive. They are tied to HD-DVD in some way. But, I guess your are right. THey have so much cash, that they could care less which formats wins. I heard that they prefer HD digital movie downloads anyway. I thimk that they just stuck to HD-DVD to appose Sony.

why cant they just let bluray win already

Resistance owns!!!!!111 one!

That's the general consensus.
